Part of the problem
today is that many Catholics fail to realize that they are attending the Holy
SACRIFICE of the Mass - a propitiatory sacrifice, NOT a Catholic "religious
party". Mass is the re-presentation of Calvary, not a time for laughing,
clapping, talking... The appropriateness of silence in church – God's house, a
house of prayer – is timeless and the principles that call for silence are
unchanging, regardless of the revolutionary 1960's council (Vatican II). Once
people finally view Mass and the Holy Eucharist in the appropriate light, it is
easier for them to understand the correct behavior they should adopt in church.

BTW, to avoid this
situation, you might find it useful to seek out the glorious, highly reverent
Traditional Mass (try
here for more information). In my experience, those who attend the
ancient Mass generally tend to behave more appropriately in church.
Did you know?
It is still possible – thanks be to God! – to lawfully attend the Traditional
Latin Mass. The Traditional Latin ('Tridentine') Mass differs from the 1960's
Novus Ordo Mass in many & significant ways (try
