How To Use URL Shortcuts: Simply enter the shortcut URL in your browser instead of the full URL.

Example: Enter the shortcut URL "MyCatholicSource.com/News" (or "www.MyCatholicSource.com/News") in your browser's address bar (also called location bar, URL bar, etc.). For an illustration, see below. Note that the address bar is DIFFERENT from the search bar. Upon hitting Enter (or "go", etc.), you should be automatically redirected to the applicable page (in the above example, you should be directed to the News & Opinion Page at http://www.mycatholicsource.com/mcs/cmno/news_and_opinion.htm) without your having to type in the full URL.

Notes:

* These URL shortcuts are designed to function in browsers' address bars, NOT search bars or search engines. These shortcuts may not work in search bars and search engines (see below for more information)

* Capitalization should not matter.

* Some items have multiple shortcuts. This permits users to choose their preferred shortcut & may assist in the event a shortcut is mistyped, where applicable (e.g. certain shortcuts entered in the plural instead of the singular). You can use ANY of the shortcuts listed above.

* The following illustration may be of assistance if you use Internet Explorer 7 or Firefox 3.0.18 (or a similar browser or version)...

Where URL Shortcuts Work & Don't Work:

Our URL shortcuts should work in any browser (NOT search engine) that allows you to directly input a URL - e.g. Internet Explorer, Firefox, etc. These shortcuts may NOT work as keywords in search bars or search engines (e.g. Google, Yahoo). Keep in mind that that URL shortcuts take the place of a full URL - they are equivalent to a full web address and are not simply "keywords" for a search.

Need more help? Not sure what browser you use or if you are using a search engine? Try...

* Looking at the illustration above and comparing it to your screen (e.g. look at the top of your screen for a horizontal bar like one of the two bars pictured above). Does part of your screen resemble either of those bars pictured above (even if the colors are different)?

* Looking for words such as "go" or "search". The word "go" may indicate that you can enter a URL shortcut. The word search (or an image of a magnifying glass) may mean the field is for searching (and therefore the field may NOT work for URL shortcuts).

* Looking for an option for "Help" in your search engine or browser.

Additional tips...

* If you know how to enter a web address in your browser, then you should already know how to use our shortcuts. Just use the shortcut URL instead of a full URL. If this doesn't work, you may be entering the shortcut URL in a field designed for searches. If so, look around for a field that is designed to accept web addresses (URLs).

* Whether or not it is necessary to include the "www." with the URL shortcut may depend upon the browser used. To test whether or not it is necessary to include the "www." in your browser, try using a URL shortcut without the "www." - if it works, you do not need to add the "www.", otherwise you may need to add the "www."

* If you are having difficulty with a shortcut, please check the spelling of all words. Shortcuts must be typed exactly to work.

* URL shortcuts are not a replacement for bookmarks or favorites.
