Prayer
of St. Catherine dei Ricci |
Bestow
on me, O Lord God, understanding to know you, diligence to see you,
wisdom to find you, a perseverance in waiting patiently for you,
and a hope that may embrace you at the last. |
|
Prayer
of St. Catherine dei Ricci |
O Lord Jesus Christ! I adore you hanging on the cross, wearing on your head the crown of thorns: I implore that your cross may deliver me from the blows of the angel of vengeance. (Our
Father..., Hail Mary...) O Lord Jesus Christ! I adore you wounded on the cross, given gall and vinegar to drink: I pray you that your wounds may be a cure for my soul. (Our
Father..., Hail Mary...) O Lord Jesus Christ! By that bitterness that you suffered on the cross for my sins, especially at the moment when your most beautiful soul departed from your blessed body: I implore you, have pity on my soul when it departs from my body, lead it to eternal life. (Our
Father..., Hail Mary...) O Lord Jesus Christ! I adore you descending into hell and delivering the captives: I implore you, do not permit me to enter there. (Our
Father..., Hail Mary...) O Lord Jesus Christ! I adore you restored to live among the dead, ascending into heaven, and seating yourself at the right hand of your Father: I implore you to make me worthy to follow you there, and to be presented to you. (Our
Father..., Hail Mary...) O Lord Jesus Christ, Good Shepherd! Save the righteous, justify the sinners, have pity on all the faithful, and be merciful to me, a sinner. So be it. (Our
Father..., Hail Mary...) O Lord Jesus Christ! I adore you laid in the sepulcher, embalmed with myrrh and spices: I implore you that your death may be my life. Amen. (Our
Father..., Hail Mary...) |

Scriptural
Passion Prayer of St. Catherine dei Ricci |
My friends and my neighbors have drawn near and stood against me. I was delivered up, and came not forth: my eyes languished through poverty. And his sweat came down as drops of blood, tricking on the ground. For many dogs have encompassed me, the council of the malignant has besieged me. I have given my body to the strikers and my cheeks to them that plucked them. I have not turned my face from them that rebuked me, and spit upon me. For I am ready for scourges, and my sorrow is continually before me. And pleating a crown of thorns, they put it on his head. They have pierced my hands and my feet, they have numbered all my bones. And they gave me gall for my food, and in my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink. All they that saw me have laughed me to scorn, they have spoken with the lips and wagged the head. They have looked and stared upon me. They have parted my garments amongst them, and upon my vesture they have cast lots. Into your hands I commend my spirit: you have redeemed me, O Lord, the God of truth.
Look, we
beg you, O Lord, upon this your household for whom Our Lord Jesus Christ did not hesitate to give himself over into the hands of sinners and undergo the torment of the Cross. (Ref.: Ps., Isa., Mt.,
Lk.) |

Prayer
of Thanksgiving |
O
tender Father, you gave me more, much more than I ever thought to
ask for. I realize that our human desires can never really match
what you long to give us. Thanks, and again thanks, O Father, for
having granted my petitions, and that which I never realized I
needed or petitioned. |

Prayer
to One's Guardian Angel in Preparation for Death |
My
good Angel: I know not when or how I shall die. It is possible I
may be carried off suddenly, and that before my last sigh I may be
deprived of all intelligence. Yet how many things I would wish to
say to God on the threshold of eternity. In the full freedom of my
will today, I come to charge you to speak for me at that fearful
moment. You will say to Him, then, O my good Angel: That I wish to
die in the Roman Catholic Apostolic Church in which all the saints
since Jesus Christ have died, and out of which there is no
salvation. That I ask the grace of sharing in the infinite merits
of my Redeemer and that I desire to die in pressing to my lips the
cross that was bathed in His blood! That I detest my sins because
they displease Him, and that I pardon through love of Him all my
enemies as I wish myself to be pardoned. That I die willingly
because He orders it, and that I throw myself with confidence into
His adorable Heart, awaiting all His mercy. That in my
inexpressible desire to go to heaven I am disposed to suffer
everything it may please His sovereign justice to inflict on me.
That I love Him before all things, above all things and for His
own sake; that I wish and hope to love Him with the elect, his
angels and the Blessed Mother during all eternity. Do not refuse,
O my Angel, to be my interpreter with God, and to protest to Him
that these are my sentiments and my will. Amen. |

Prayer
of St. Clare of Assisi |
Praise
and glory to you, O loving Jesus Christ, for the most sacred wound
in your side, and by that adorable wound and by your infinite
mercy which you made known to us in the opening of your breast to
the solder Longinus, and so to us all. I pray you, O most gentle
Jesus, having redeemed me by baptism from original sin, so now, by
your Precious Blood, which is offered and received throughout the
world, deliver me from all evils, past, present, and to come. And
by your most bitter death, give me a lively faith, a firm hope,
and a perfect charity, so that I may love you with all my heart,
all my soul, and all my strength. Make me firm and steadfast in
good works and grant me perseverance in your service so that I may
be able to please you always. |

Prayer
to Persevere in the Faith |
O
my Redeemer, will that terrible moment ever come, when but few
Christians shall be left who are inspired by the spirit of faith,
that moment when Thine indignation shall be provoked and Thy
protection shall be taken from us? Have our vices and our evil
lives irrevocably moved Thy justice to take vengeance, perhaps
this very day, upon Thy children? O Thou, the author and finisher
of our faith, we conjure Thee, in the bitterness of our contrite
and humbled hearts, not to suffer the fair light of faith to be
extinguished in us. Remember Thy mercies of old, turn Thine eyes
in compassion upon the vineyard planted by Thine own right hand,
and watered by the sweat of the Apostles, by the precious blood of
countless Martyrs and by the tears of so many sincere penitents,
and made fruitful by the prayers of so many Confessors and
innocent Virgins. O divine Mediator, look upon those zealous souls
who raise their hearts to Thee and pray without ceasing for the
maintenance of that most precious gift of Thine, the true faith.
We beseech Thee, O God of justice, to hold back the decree of our
rejection, and to turn away Thine eyes from our vices and regard
instead the adorable Blood shed upon the Cross, which purchased
our salvation and daily intercedes for us upon our altars. Ah,
keep us safe in the true Catholic and Roman faith. Let sickness
afflict us, vexations waste us, misfortunes overwhelm us! But
preserve in us Thy holy faith; for if we are rich with this
precious gift, we shall gladly endure every sorrow, and nothing
shall ever be able to change our happiness. On the other hand,
without this great treasure of faith, our unhappiness would be
unspeakable and without limit! O good Jesus, author of our faith,
preserve it pure within us; keep us safe in the barque of Peter,
faithful and obedient to his successor and Thy Vicar here on
earth, that so the unity of Holy Church may be maintained,
holiness fostered, the Holy See protected in freedom, and the
Church universal extended to the benefit of souls. O Jesus, author
of our faith, humble and covert the enemies of Thy Church; grant
true peace and concord to all Christian kings and princes and to
all believers; strengthen and preserve us in Thy holy service, to
the end that we may live in Thee and die in Thee. O Jesus, author
of our faith, let me live for Thee and die for Thee. Amen. |

Prayer
of St. Clement of Rome |
We
beseech you, O Lord, to grant us your help and protection. Deliver
the afflicted, pity the lowly, raise the fallen, reveal yourself
to the needy, heal the sick, and bring home your wandering people.
Feed the hungry, ransom the captive, support the weak, comfort the
fainthearted. Let all nations of the earth know that you alone are
God, that Jesus Christ [is our Lord], and that we are your people
and the sheep of your pasture. |
|
Prayer
of St. Clement of Rome |
Almighty
God, Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, grant, we pray, that we
might be grounded and settled in your truth by the coming of your
Holy Spirit into our hearts. What we do not know, reveal to us;
what is lacking within us, make complete; that which we do
know, confirm in us; and keep us blameless in your service,
through Jesus Christ our Lord. |

Prayer
of St. Columbanus |
I
beseech you, merciful God, to allow me to drink from the stream
that flows from your fountain of life. May I taste the sweet
beauty of its waters, which spring from the very depths of your
truth. O Lord, you are that fountain from which I desire with all
my heart to drink. Give me, Lord Jesus, this water that it may
quench the burning spiritual thirst within my soul, and purify me
from all sin. I know, King of Glory, that I am asking from you a
great gift, but you give to your faithful people without counting
the cost, and you promise even greater things in the future.
Indeed, nothing is greater than yourself, and you have given
yourself to mankind on the cross. Therefore, in praying for the
waters of life, I am praying that you, the source of those waters,
will give yourself to me. You are my light, my salvation, my food,
my drink, my God. |

O
God, who was and is, you willed that I should be born. You brought

Prayer
of St. Cyprian of Carthage |
Good
God, may we confess your name to the end; may we emerge unmarked
and glorious from the traps and darkness of this world. As you
have bound us together by charity and peace, and as together we
have persevered under persecution, so may we also rejoice together
in your heavenly kingdom. |
