Prayer
of St. Teresa of Avila |
O
God, have pity on so many perishing souls; stay the course of so
many evils which afflict Christendom; and, without further delay,
cause Thy light to shine in the midst of this darkness! |
|
Prayer
of St. Teresa of Avila |
Lord,
grant that I may always allow myself to be guided by you, always
follow your plans, and perfectly accomplish your holy will. Grant
that in all things, great and small, today and all the days of my
life, I may do whatever you may require of me. Help me to respond
to the slightest prompting of your grace, so that I may be your
trustworthy instrument, for your honor. May your will be done in
time and eternity - by me, in me, and through me. Amen. |

Morning
Prayer of St. Therese of Lisieux |
O
my God! I offer you all my actions of this day for the intentions
and glory of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. I desire to sanctify every
beat of my heart, by uniting them to its infinite merits, and I
wish to make reparation for my sins by casting them into the
furnace of its merciful love. O my God! I ask you for myself and
for those whom I hold dear the grace to fulfill perfectly your
holy will, to accept for love of you the joys and sorrows of this
passing life, so that we one day may be united in heaven for all
eternity. Amen. |
|
Prayer
of St. Therese of Lisieux |
O
Jesus, who in your bitter Passion became 'the reproach of men and
the Man of Sorrows,' I venerate your sacred countenance in which
shone the beauty and the sweetness of the Divinity, now become for
my sake like the face of a 'leper'! But in those disfigured
features I recognize your infinite Love, and I long to love you
and to make you loved by all men. The tears that fall so
abundantly from your eyes appear to me as precious pearls that I
love to gather, and so purchase with their infinite value the
souls of poor sinners. O Jesus, whose face is the only beauty that
ravishes my heart, I am content not to see here below the
tenderness of your gaze, not to experience the ineffable kiss of
your mouth, but I beseech you to imprint in me your divine
likeness, and inflame me with your Love so that it may consume me
quickly and I may soon behold your glorious face in heaven. Amen. |

Devoutly
I adore thee, O my Lord, Who art concealed in figures at the
board; To thee my heart bows down in voiceless faith; I see
thee not, but I believe thy word. Sight, touch and taste are
easily deceived; Thy word alone can safely be believed; I
grant, O Son of God, whate'er to me Thou sayest; in thee
have I all faith achieved. Upon the cross was thy divinity
Concealed, nor here thy human form we see, Yet I, in faith
confessing, seek thee, Lord, Like the repentant thief upon
the tree. I do not ask, as Thomas did, dear Lord, To see thy
wounds; sufficient is thy word; O, fill my soul with firmer
faith, that still in hope and love with thee it may accord.
O sweet memorial of the Saviour's death, True bread that
brings to man the living breath, Grant that my soul thy holy
law may know, And live with thee in everlasting faith. A
pitying pelican, dear Jesus, be; Save by the blood thou
sheddest on the tree, My starving soul - thy precious blood,
whereof One drop from every crime the world can free. Jesus,
whom here in figures I behold, I hunger for the time to see
unrolled the veil from thy sweet features; let me be blest
with the vision in thy halls of gold. Amen. |
Adoro
te devote latens Dietas, Quae sub his figuris vere latitas:
Tibi se cor meum totum subjicit, Quia te contemplans totum
deficit. Visus, gustus, tactus in te fallitur, Sed auditu
solo tuto creditur: Credo quidquid dixit Dei Filius: Nil hoc
Veritatis verbo verius. In cruce latebat sola Deitas, At hic
latet simul et humanitas: Ambo tamen credens, atque
confitens, Peto quod petivit latro poenitens. Plagas, sicut
Thomas, non intueor, Deum tamen meum te confiteor: Fac me
tibi semper magis credere In te spem habere, te diligere. O
memoriale mortis Domini, Panis vivus vitam praestans homini:
Praesta meae menti de te vivere, Et te illi semper dulce
sapere. Pie Pellicane, Jesu Domine, Me immundum munda tuo
sanguine, Cujus una stilla salvum facere Totum mundum quit
ab omni scelere. Jesu, quem velatum nunc aspicio, Oro fiat
illud quod tam sitio: Ut te revelata cernens facie, Visu sim
beatus tuae gloriae. Amen. |

Holy
Cross Prayer |
Cross,
my certain salvation, Cross, whom I ever adore, Cross of the Lord
be with me, Cross, my refuge, forever more. |

Ineffable
Creator |
Ineffable
Creator, Who out of the treasures of Thy wisdom hast appointed
three hierarchies of Angels and set them in admirable order high
above the heavens and hast disposed the divers portions of the
universe in such marvelous array, Thou Who art called the True
Source of Light and super-eminent Principle of Wisdom, be pleased
to cast a beam of Thy radiance upon the darkness of my mind and
dispel from me the double darkness of sin and ignorance in which I
have been born. Thou Who makest eloquent the tongues of little
children, fashion my words and pour upon my lips the grace of Thy
benediction. Grant me penetration to understand, capacity to
retain, method and facility in study, subtlety in interpretation
and abundant grace of expression. Order the beginning, direct the
progress and perfect the achievement of my work, Thou who art true
God and Man and livest and reignest for ever and ever. Amen. |

Prayer
After Holy Communion |
I
give Thee thanks, O holy Lord, Father Almighty, eternal God, Who
hast vouchsafed, not for any merits of mine, but solely out of the
condescension of Thy mercy, to satisfy me, a sinner, Thine unworthy
servant, with the precious Body and Blood of Thy Son our Lord
Jesus Christ. I pray that this holy Communion be not to me a
condemnation unto punishment, but a saving plea unto forgiveness.
May it be unto me the armor of faith and the shield of good will.
May it be the emptying out of my vices, the extinction of all concupiscence
and lust, the increase of charity and patience, of humility and
obedience, and of all virtues; a strong defense against the snares
of all enemies, visible and invisible; the perfect quieting of all
my evil impulses, both fleshly and ghostly; a firm cleaving unto
Thee, the one true God; and a pledge of a blessed destiny. And I
beseech Thee, that Thou wouldst vouchsafe to bring me, a sinner,
to that ineffable banquet, where Thou, with Thy Son and the Holy
Ghost, art to Thy saints true light, fullness of content, eternal
joy, gladness without alloy and perfect bliss. Through the same
Christ our Lord. Amen. |

Prayer
in Preparation for Holy Communion |
Almighty
and eternal God, behold, I approach the Sacrament of Thine
only-begotten Son, our Lord Jesus Christ. I approach as one who is
sick to the physician of life, as one unclean to the fountain of
mercy, as one blind to the light of eternal brightness, as one
poor and needy to the Lord of heaven and earth. Therefore I
beseech Thee, of Thine infinite goodness, to heal my sickness, to
wash away my filth, to enlighten my blindness, to enrich my
poverty, and to clothe my nakedness, that I may receive the Bread
of Angels, the King of kings, and Lord of lords with such
reverence and humility, with such contrition and devotion, with
such purity and faith, with such purpose and intention, as may
conduce to the salvation of my soul. Grant, I beseech Thee, that I
may receive not only the Sacrament of the Body and Blood of our
Lord, but also the fruit and virtue of this Sacrament. O most
indulgent God, grant me so to receive the Body of Thine
Only-begotten Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, which He took of the Virgin
Mary, that I may be found worthy to be incorporated with His mystical
body and numbered among His members. O most loving Father, grant
that I may one day contemplate forever, face to face, Thy beloved
Son, whom now on my pilgrimage I am about to receive under the
sacramental veils; Who liveth and reigneth with Thee in the unity
of the Holy Ghost, God, world without end. Amen. |

Prayer
of Praise |
I
praise you, I glorify you, I bless you, O God, for the immense
blessings you have given me, notwithstanding my unworthiness. I
bless you clemency in waiting for me, your sweetness in correcting
instead of destroying me, your tenderness in calling me, your
benignity in receiving me, your mercy in pardoning me, your
goodness in filling me with favors, your patience in forgetting my
injuries, your humility in consoling me, your compassion in
protecting me, your eternity in preserving me, and your truth in
rewarding me. How shall I speak, my God, of your ineffable
goodness? For when a fugitive, you call me back; returning, you
receive me; stumbling, you bear me up; despairing, you fill me
with joy; negligent, you spur me on; fighting, you arm me;
conquering, you crown me, a sinner. You do not spurn me after
repentance, and you remember not my offenses. You deliver me from
many dangers, soften my heart to penance, make me fearful by
punishments, allure me by rewards, chastise me by scourges, and
guard me by the ministry of angels. You give me earthly goods,
while you reserve for me those that are eternal. You encourage me
by your dignity of creation, you draw me to yourself by the
clemency of redemption, and you promise me the rewards of
sanctification. I am unable to offer you fitting praises for all
these benefits. But I return thanks to your Majesty for the
abundance of your infinite goodness, and I beseech you that you
will ever increase grace in me, that after increasing it, you will
preserve it, and after preserving it, you will reward it.
Amen. |

Prayer
of St. Thomas Aquinas |
Grant
to me, O merciful God, that I might ardently love, prudently
ponder, rightly acknowledge, and perfectly fulfill all that is
pleasing to you for the praise and glory of your Name. |
|
Prayer
of St. Thomas Aquinas |
Oversee,
O my God, my life, that I may do what you ask of me; allow me to
see and permit me to do whatever is fitting and profitable to my
soul. Lead me not, O Lord my God, into excessive wealth or want,
lest I put my trust in riches, or despair in misery. Let me take
no joy or sorrow, save in what would lead me to you or from you.
Let me delight only in pleasing you and fear only displeasing you.
O Lord, let all passing things seem worthless to me and let
everything eternal become my treasure. May I despise any joy apart
from you and seek nothing that is without you. Make carrying the
burdens for you my relaxation, O Lord, and rest without you itself
a burden. |

Prayer
for Enemies |
Almighty
God, have mercy on (N.), and on all that bear me evil
will, and would do me harm, and their faults and mine
together by such easy, tender, merciful means as Thine infinite
wisdom best can devise, vouchsafe to amend and redress and make us
saved souls in heaven together, where we may ever live and love
together with Thee and Thy blessed saints, O glorious Trinity, for
the bitter passion of our sweet Savior Christ. Amen. |
|
Prayer
of St. Thomas More |
O
Lord, give us a mind that is humble, quiet, peaceable, patient,
and charitable. And a taste of Your Holy Spirit in all our
thoughts, words and deeds. O Lord, give us a lively faith, a firm
hope, a fervent charity, a love of You. Take from us all
lukewarmness in meditation and dullness in prayer. Give us fervor
and delight in thinking of You, Your grace, and Your tender
compassion toward us. Give us,
good Lord, the grace to work for the things we pray for.
Amen. |
