Q. Is E-Mail
Secure?
A.
E-mail is generally insecure. E-mail
may be intercepted, forged, spied on/read by others, etc. Do not
transmit sensitive personal information via e-mail.
Q. Who
Is Responsible For Problems Regarding E-Mail?
A. You alone are
responsible for all problems regarding e-mail. As indicated in our terms
of use, you assume all risk relating to the use of e-mail. If you
cannot afford - or do not want - such risks, you should not participate.
Q.
Did An E-Mail I Received Really Come From You?
A.
Did you receive unexpected e-mail / junk e-mail / malicious e-mail /
etc. allegedly from us? Unfortunately, we have ourselves received such
e-mail. You should know that others may easily send e-mail and make it
look as though it came from someone else (called "spoofing").
The fact that an e-mail may look as though it came from us (even if it
includes links to our site, logos of ours, etc.), does not necessarily
guarantee that it really did come from us. Remember that e-mail may be
easily forged. Use great caution with such mail as it may be an attempt
to gather personal information about you or seek to compromise your
system. For assistance in determining if an e-mail is really from us and
for further instructions on what to do, see question below (click
here).
Q.
How Can I Tell If An E-Mail I Received Comes From You? / What Should I
Do If I Receive Fraudulent E-Mail Allegedly From You?
A.
As indicated above, e-mail is easily forged and the fact that an e-mail
may look as though it came from us (even if it includes links to our
site, logos of ours, etc.), does not necessarily guarantee that it
really did come from us. If you receive an e-mail that appears to come
from us but it asks for private information / requires you to "log
on" / tells you that you have "won" something / is full
of typos or poorly constructed sentences allegedly from us / is cryptic
/ contains anti-Catholic content allegedly from us / has unexpected
attachments / contains offensive graphics allegedly from us / etc., you
may assume that it is not from us (no matter how 'real' it may otherwise
appear).
For
assistance in determining whether an e-mail really did come from us, you
may contact your Internet service provider / qualified administrator /
etc., use applicable tools that may be available online / etc. Please do
not contact us for assistance regarding such matters as we are unable to
assist you personally.
When
evaluating e-mail, it may also be helpful to consider the purpose of the
e-mail - remember that legitimate e-mail from us may verify information
you have provided, but it won't ask you to reveal sensitive personal
information (or instruct you to transmit personal information via a
website), it won't require you to 'log on', it won't require you to
disclose financial information (including your credit card number), it won't require you to open unexpected
files/attachments, it won't require you to 'update your password' or supply
a password, etc. Our legitimate e-mail should not contain
anti-Catholic content or be full of typos or poorly constructed
sentences. Our e-mail is also unlikely to directly solicit funds (especially
to other websites / oversees addresses / etc.) or to appear 'pointless'.
We do not need your help with overseas cash. We do not need to perform
security updates that require you to log in. We do not threaten to
disable your 'account' [remember that you don't even have an 'account'
here unless you previously made a purchase - e.g. paid a processing fee
for an advertisement with your credit card - and chose to create an
account (even so, we would not 'threaten to disable your account')]. We do not sell prescription medication. We do not endorse any
third party products / services / websites / etc. (regardless of what
you may be told).
You
should NEVER respond to forged e-mail - do not
visit websites indicated in the e-mail / do not view
graphics / do not open files / do not open
attachments / do not 'log in' anywhere / do not
provide any personal information / do not send money /
etc. [instead, consider reporting fraudulent e-mail to the proper
governmental authorities (not us), your Internet service provider,
etc.].
Should
you receive forged e-mail / malicious e-mail, we encourage you to report
it law enforcement or other appropriate authorities, as appropriate
(especially if it is more than simple 'annoyance' e-mail). Please keep
in mind, however, that malicious or junk e-mail that is
sent is probably disguised (so you think it comes from someone else) or
it may come from a victimized computer (without the owner's permission).
It may have forged IP addresses and other forged information, and it may
be likely to originate from outside the
U.S.
Remember
that we are not responsible for fraudulent / spoofed / etc. e-mail or
for any consequences that may occur due to such e-mail. Note that those who send
such e-mail might just as easily utilize another e-mail address (even
yours!). They can do this without having control over your system, they
can do this even if your system is fully secure, is not compromised, has
no viruses, etc. In fact, 'spoofing' of e-mail may be quite easy and does
not require that the sender have any control whatsoever over another
system (a mail address - real or manufactured - may be all that is
needed!). Unfortunately, we are unable to assist you in tracking down or
stopping perpetrators of such fraud. Furthermore, we know that
fraudulent sending of e-mail occurs, so it is not necessary to inform us of
it (remember that if we receive thousands of notifications regarding
such incidents, it may slow us
down, use up resources, and distract us from our purpose). On the other
hand, if you
have good reason to believe we have actually been "hacked" (and
not just 'spoofed' - which does not require actual control of another's
computer system), please let us know (try
here for contact information).
Q.
How Can I Contact You Via E-Mail?
A.

Q.
What Things Must I Know Regarding E-Mailing You?
A.
Remember that all contacts (via e-mail / mail / phone / etc.) are
subject to our feedback
terms & conditions and that all use of this site is subject to our terms
of use. You must also follow our Code
of Conduct. Be sure to follow all guidelines when contacting us.
Remember that we cannot respond personally to feedback, regardless of
the importance or urgency of the matter, so please do not request or
expect a response. Also, we use filtering, so if your message contains certain
words (or comes from a certain address, IP, etc.), it may be automatically
rejected. It may also be automatically rejected if it contains all
capitals, symbols, html text, advertising, excess verbiage,
offensive/questionable material, poor grammar, etc. or is not in
English. When contacting us, you must use the correct address / form /
etc. and may not include any unsolicited attachments or images. Remember
that it may take us a long time to consider feedback and that feedback
may be auto deleted / ignored / discarded / etc. for any reason (or for
no reason). Remember that we do not promise to consider any/all
feedback. Please keep all contact short and to the point. Note that
there may be a size limit to e-mail. Also, do not send any sensitive
personal information with your feedback. NOTICE: ALL E-MAIL MUST BE
SENT TO THE PROPER ACCOUNT (E.G. TO THE SPECIFICALLY AUTHORIZED ACCOUNT FOR THE
TYPE OF E-MAIL SENT). ANY E-MAIL SENT TO AN IMPROPER ACCOUNT MAY BE SUBJECT
TO AUTO-REJECTION.
Q.
Why Was My E-Mail To You Not Responded To?
A.
As indicated above, we cannot respond personally to feedback, regardless
of the importance or urgency of the matter, so please do not request or
expect a response.
Q.
What If I Want My E-Mail Address Removed From This Site or Changed?
A Sorry,
but we cannot honor requests to make changes / deletions to user posts.
Q.
What If Have a Problem Regarding E-Mail (Sent or Received)?
A. Depending upon the
nature of the problem, it you may consider notifying your ISP, law
enforcement and/or other appropriate agencies. Remember that we are not a
party to others' activities and do not mediate disputes. You are solely responsible
for the consequences of using this site (including all correspondence
sent/received)
If you have problems
with e-mail received or to prevent problems, consider...
* Not including your
e-mail address with your posts (click
here for more information)
* Changing e-mail
addresses
* Using multiple
e-mail accounts
* Using adequate /
up-to-date virus protection / spyware detection / etc.
* Employing filtering
* If you think a junk
e-mail / malicious e-mail / etc. is from us, see question above (click
here)
* If you think we
'sold out' your e-mail address, see question below (click
here)
* Remember not to
provide personal information (especially via e-mail or other insecure
methods)
* Do not visit
unknown websites / open unexpected attachments / view graphics / run
unknown programs (or allow them to run) / etc.
* Do not reply to
uncertain e-mail
If you have problems
with sent e-mail or to prevent problems, consider...
* Being especially
careful to follow all instructions
* E-mail addresses of
others may change frequently
* People may
check their e-mail accounts infrequently
* People may not have the time or inclination to
respond to e-mail
* There
may be a technical problem / the e-mail mail never have been received / the e-mail may have been filtered
out / etc.
Q.
I Am Receiving a Lot of Junk E-Mail. Did You 'Sell Out' My E-Mail
Information?
A.
If you are receiving a lot of junk mail after posting to this site,
please do not assume that we 'sold out' your e-mail address! Like you,
we most definitely do not appreciate unsolicited junk e-mail! Remember
that if you provide your e-mail address, it may appear on this site for
anyone to see (and, unfortunately, even to abuse). Even if the e-mail
comes from (or appears to come from) a Catholic (or 'Christian'), you should
not assume that we 'sold out' your e-mail address! Remember that we
do not endorse any third party (regardless of what you may be told).
Most likely, such occurrences of unsolicited e-mail may be tied to another
user of this site (or other third party) who has 'harvested' your
information. While we regret such incidents, we are, unfortunately,
unable to prevent their occurrence. This is one of the reasons we caution
users regarding providing their e-mail address with posts (click here
for more information). Note: We regret that we are unable to assist
you regarding unsolicited e-mail. As applicable, you may report those who
abuse e-mail to law enforcement or other authorities. Please do not
contact us regarding such matters.
Q.
What If My E-Mail Address Was Wrongly Used By Another?
A.
If you are referring to the receipt of junk 'e-mail', see question
above.
If your e-mail address was fraudulently submitted by another user with
their post, we encourage you to report this to appropriate federal,
state, and local law enforcement and/or other appropriate authorities/agencies. Note: If you have information about fraudulent
site use / abuse of this site, you may also click here to report it to
us.
