Prayer
for Help |
Behold
me at your feet, O Lord, begging for pity and mercy! What will you
lose in granting me a great love for you, a profound humility,
great purity of heart, mind and body; fraternal charity, intense
sorrow for having offended you, and the grace to offend you no
more? What will you lose, O my God, by enabling me to receive
worthily your Son in Holy Communion? In assisting me to act
through love of you in all my thoughts, works, penances, and
prayers? By granting me the grace of loving your holy Mother most
tenderly and trustfully? The grace of final perseverance in my
vocation, and of dying a good and holy death? I am a beggar asking
for alms, covered with sores and rags. O see my misery! Here is my
proud head, my cold heart, yes, my stony heart. Here is my mind
filled with worldly thoughts, my will inclined only to evil, my
body rebellious to every good work. Help me, O my God! |

Prayer
to Be Faithful to One's Resolutions |
Grant,
O Lord, that I may be faithful to my resolutions. Alas! I cannot
depend upon myself, incapable as I am of fulfilling the least
commitment. But I confide in Thee alone, Who art Goodness and
infinite Mercy and Who cannot fail in Thy promises. O Supreme
Goodness, when I failed, the failure was on my side! Henceforth, I
desire Thee to act in me. Grant, O Lord, that I may keep my
resolutions exactly and without fault. I firmly hope this from
Thee, O Thou inexhaustible Treasure! |

Marian
Prayer of St. Gertrude (the Great) of Helfta |
Most
chaste Virgin Mary, by the spotless purity with which you prepared
for the Son of God a dwelling of delight in your virginal womb, I
beg of you to intercede for me that I may be cleansed from every
stain. Most humble Virgin Mary, by that most profound humility by
which you deserved to be raised high above all the choirs of
angels and saints, I beg of you to intercede for me that all my
sins may be expiated. Most amiable Mary, by that indescribable
love that united you so closely and inseparably to God, I beg of
you to intercede for me that I may obtain an abundance of all
merits. Amen. |

Prayer
After Confession |
Since
I have so grievously insulted you, O most tender and loving God,
by my manifold sins and negligences, I am ready now to make
perfect satisfaction to your divine justice to the utmost of my
ability. To this end I will faithfully and most reverently perform
the penance appointed me by my confessor in your name; and I wish
that I could perform it with so great devotion and live as to give
you an honor and delight greater than the insult and outrage of my
sins! And that this may be so, I unite and blend this my penance
with all the works of satisfaction that your beloved Son
accomplished during the three and thirty years of his life on
earth, and in union with his fastings, his watchings, and his
prayers, I offer you this, my penance and my prayer: Look down,
therefore, O most loving Father, upon me, your most indebted
debtor, now prostrate at your feet, desiring to make you adequate
satisfaction and reparation for all the insults and injuries I
have done to you; and grant me strength and grace to say this
prayer according to your most holy will. Amen. |
|
Prayer
for Sinners |
Be
favorable towards my sins and thoughtlessness, Lord, and deign to
make amends for all errors of my wasted way of life by your most
perfect way of life. |
|
Prayer
of Thanksgiving for Graces |
I
bless and thank your omnipotent and wise kindness, O my God,
because you have bestowed on me graces so far beyond my deserts,
not withstanding all the obstacles I opposed to your bounty. |
|
Prayer
to One's Guardian Angel |
O
most holy angel of God, appointed by God to be my guardian, I give
you thanks for all the benefits which you have ever bestowed on me
in body and in soul. I praise and glorify you that you
condescended to assist me with such patient fidelity and to defend
me against all the assaults of my enemies. Blessed be the hour in
which you were assigned me for my guardian, my defender, and my
patron. In acknowledgement and return for all your loving
ministries to me, I offer you the infinitely precious and noble
heart of Jesus, and firmly purpose to obey you henceforward, and
most faithfully to serve my God. Amen. |

Prayer
to the Holy Trinity |
I
venerate and glorify Thee, O Most Blessed Trinity, in union with
that ineffable glory with which God the Father, in His
omnipotence, honors the Son and the Holy Spirit forever. Glory
be... I magnify and bless Thee, O Most Blessed Trinity, in union
with that most reverent glory with which God the Son, in His
unsearchable wisdom, glorifies the Father and the Holy Spirit
forever. Glory be... I adore and extol Thee, O Most Blessed
Trinity in union with that most adequate and befitting glory with
which the Holy Spirit, in His unsearchable goodness, extols the
Father and the Son forever. Glory be... |
