Encouraging News For Traditionalists

Latin Mass / Catholic Tradition

Traditional Latin ('Tridentine') Mass

Latin Mass & Catholic Tradition: Encouraging News

Important Notice: The following is provided for informational purposes only and is not comprehensive. We make no guarantees regarding any item herein. By using this site you agree to all terms. For more terms information, click here.

Tradition-minded Catholics have much to be thankful for. In addition to the 1984 and 1988 indults by Pope John Paul II in favor of the "Tridentine Mass", other encouraging events have occurred in recent years. For example, consider:

  • Various priestly groups have received papal sanction to celebrate all sacraments (including Mass, baptism, requiems, etc.) according to the traditional rites

  • One notable diocese has received papal sanction to be an "entire traditional diocese" - which celebrates all sacraments according to the traditional rites. As one wise priest has said, "Remember that entire Church started out as a seed!"

  • The number of Traditional Masses has increased - many dioceses have at least one 'Tridentine' Mass per week, some have daily 'Tridentine' Masses, many have 'Tridentine' Masses on holy days... (Note: In December 2005, it was reported that 'Tridentine' Masses are offered in 2/3 of the dioceses in the United States.)

  • The number of traditional Catholics has been swelling over recent years

  • It is reported that more diocesan priests and seminarians are studying to learn the 'Tridentine' Mass

  • High ranking prelates have publicly said the Traditional Mass

  • Pope John Paul II is said to have said the 'Tridentine' Mass on various occasions

  • High ranking prelates have publicly complimented various aspects of the Traditional Mass

  • It has been reported that various Bishops regularly say the 'Tridentine' Mass

  • The Traditionalist position has received increased media coverage in recent years

  • Etc.

Further, it has been said that the only vocations "crisis" facing traditional orders is how to handle all the applicants they receive! Also, it should be remembered that traditional Catholics have many more per capita births than non-traditional Catholics.

It is clear that despite the widespread mistreatment often accorded to traditional Catholics, there is still much hope out there. Not only can traditional Catholics be grateful for how far we have come, we should always remember that "for God all things are possible." (Mt. 19:26)

Although the Church began outnumbered in a pagan world, and with only a small group of fearful men, it has since reached the far corners of the earth. Can we not hope that as Catholic tradition is increasingly vindicated (it is surely becoming less possible to hide the negative fruits of some of the innovations of the past few decades), many more Catholics will be drawn to the precious traditions of their ancestors? It seems to already be occurring.

Regi sæculórum immortáli et invisíbili, soli Deo honor et glória in sæcula sæculórum. (To the King of ages, immortal and invisible, the only God, be honor and glory for ever and ever.) [English / Latin]
