Abortion: Its Scope

The Scope of Abortion

Sources: Various

Important Notice: The following is not comprehensive. We make no guarantee regarding any item herein. Items herein may be graphic in nature. We condemn abortion-related violence. Do not inflict violence on those who procure, advise, or participate in abortions. The following is not intended as a political discussion or an official stand on political matters. The Facts About Abortion:

  • As many as 1/3 of all pregnancies in the U.S. end in abortion.

  • In the United States, there are an estimated 1.33 million abortions annually.

  • There are an estimated 50 million abortions worldwide annually.

  • In some cities in America abortions have outnumbered live births.

  • Abortion is said to be the most common surgical procedure in America.

  • The U.S. may have the highest abortion rate of any western industrialized nation.

  • As many as 1 in 7 women in the U.S. may have had at least one abortion by age 20.

  • By age 45, approximately 43% of women in the U.S. will have had at least one abortion.

  • Of all unplanned pregnancies, more abort than give birth (47% abort vs. 40% give birth).

  • Of those who abort, nearly 50% may be expected to abort again.

  • Each day, more children are being murdered. On average, one child is killed daily, as often as every 20 seconds by abortion - for a total of thousands of killings every day. The killings by abortion are violent and may be painful for the child. These children had done nothing wrong; they were killed for the 'convenience' of their mothers, even though it was due to their own mothers' actions that they were conceived. They never had a voice or a vote. Most of these aborted children never received baptism. Note: Click here  for visual display representing the children killed daily in the U.S. by abortion (Prayer Counter).

  • "The number of abortions in this country has exceeded, many times over, the number of Americans killed in all U.S. wars combined."

  • Within about the first 20 years since the Supreme Court 'legalized' abortion in the U.S., American women have aborted more children than the entire population of Canada

  • The number of abortions in the 20th century has caused this century [the 1900's] to be called "the bloodiest century in history."

More Facts:

  • Abortion is related to promiscuity. Unmarried women account for an estimated 75% of abortions.

  • It has been reported that 75% of women in the U.S. who have abortions did so because "having a baby would interfere with work, school or other responsibilities". Other common reasons for abortion may include: finances, not ready for responsibility, changes required in birth mother's life, relationship problems, age, and immaturity.

  • Sex selection is used as a motive for many abortions.

  • Abortions by race: Caucasians may account for 41% of all abortions, followed by African Americans (36%), and Hispanics (17%).

  • Abortions by religion: Abortions procured by Protestants may make up over 37% of all abortions, while those procured by those who consider themselves Catholics, about 31%.

  • Americans never voted for the 'right' to kill children. Abortion was imposed on our nation by seven Supreme Court justices in the name of privacy. [Please note: We are not implying that a vote could ever make the horrible crime of abortion acceptable.]

  • Abortion hurts women. Click here for more information

From Archbishop's Homily, 30th Anniversary of the Tragic Supreme Court Ruling, January 22, 2003:

"For can we not say, that like the man of the Gospel, our country stands before the world. Its one hand is healthy and whole, dispensing the ideals which we associate with America: freedom, opportunity, justice, kindness, and self-sacrifice. But on the other side, in truth's naked light, what do we see, but a hand withered with an evil beyond belief: a twisted, deformed hand which signs into law privileges of privacy permitting murder - a withered hand which dispenses protection to builders of death mills, abortion mills - a withered hand which embraces in the guarantees of equal protection, the comings and goings of executioners of innocent babes in the womb, who wield the knives and instruments of infant murder for the sake of profit, calling it a matter of choice, a matter of 'reproductive freedom.' Perhaps it was this withered hand which our Lord saw, in the boundless distance of His vision - a hand sickened and twisted by the one-day plague of January 22, 1973, the day of Roe vs. Wade - a day not confined to memory, but a day of living infamy, with 30 years of unceasing murder, as an open wound on this country - 30 years and 40 million unborn children - 40 million lives denied. Can we even wonder why God, who chose to be born on earth as compassionate, forgiving, and full of hope, would be aggrieved so deeply? Can we even wonder why, with the unprecedented greatness of this country's natural and human resources why our Lord should be angry, to see it all compromised and distorted by this incredible stain of crime and guilt - the crime of having annihilated 40 million lives for expediency, and the guilt of trying to live with that knowledge?"
