"But I said to you, 'Have no dread or fear
of them. The LORD, your God, who goes before you, will himself
fight for you, just as he took your part before your very eyes in
Egypt, as well as in the desert, where you saw how the LORD, your
God, carried you, as a man carries his child, all along your
journey until you arrived at this place.' Despite this, you would
not trust the LORD, your God, who journeys before you to find you
a resting place - by day in the cloud, and by night in the fire,
to show the way you must go. When the LORD heard your words, he
was angry; and he swore, 'Not one man of this evil generation
shall look upon the good land I swore to give to your fathers,
except Caleb, son of Jephunneh; he shall see it. For to him and to
his sons I will give the land he trod upon, because he has
followed the LORD unreservedly.'" [DEUT 1:29-36]
"At Taberah, at Massah, and at Kibroth-hattaavah likewise, you provoked the LORD to anger. And when he sent you up from Kadesh-barnea to take possession of the land he was giving you, you rebelled against this command of the LORD, your God, and would not trust or obey him. Ever since I have known you, you have been rebels against the LORD."
              [DEUT 9:22-24]
Now David found himself in great difficulty, for the men spoke of stoning him, so bitter were they over the fate of their sons and daughters. But with renewed trust in the LORD his God, David said to Abiathar, the priest, son of Ahimelech, "Bring me the ephod!" When Abiathar brought him the ephod, David inquired of the LORD, "Shall I pursue these raiders? Can I overtake them?" The LORD answered him, "Go in pursuit, for you shall surely overtake them and effect a rescue."
              [1SAM 30:6-8]
While Elisha was still speaking, the king came
down to him and said, "This evil is from the LORD. Why should
I trust in the LORD any longer?"  Elisha said: "Hear the word of the LORD! Thus says the LORD, 'At this time tomorrow a seah of fine flour will sell for a shekel, and two seahs of barley for a shekel, in the market of Samaria.'" But the adjutant on whose arm the king leaned, answered the man of God, "Even if the LORD were to make windows in heaven, how could this happen?" "You shall see it with your own eyes," Elisha said, "but you shall not eat of it."
              [2KGS 6:33,7:1-2]
In the third year of Hoshea, son of Elah, king
of Israel, Hezekiah, son of Ahaz, king of Judah, began to reign.
He was twenty-five years old when he became king, and he reigned
twenty-nine years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Abi,
daughter of Zechariah. He pleased the LORD, just as his forefather
David had done. It was he who removed the high places, shattered
the pillars, and cut down the sacred poles. He smashed the bronze
serpent called Nehushtan which Moses had made, because up to that
time the Israelites were burning incense to it. He put his trust
in the LORD, the God of Israel; and neither before him nor after
him was there anyone like him among all the kings of Judah. Loyal
to the LORD, Hezekiah never turned away from him, but observed the
commandments which the LORD had given Moses. [2KGS 18:1-6]
When they waged war against the Hagrites and against Jetur, Naphish, and Nodab, they received help so that they mastered the Hagrites and all who were with them. For during the battle they called on God, and he heard them because they had put their trust in him.
              [1CHRON 5:19-20]
In the early morning they hastened out to the
wilderness of Tekoa. As they were going out, Jehoshaphat halted
and said: "Listen to me, Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem!
Trust in the LORD, your God, and you will be found firm. Trust in
his prophets and you will succeed." [2CHRON 20:20]
It is God who has saved all his people and has restored to all of them their heritage, the kingdom, the priesthood, and the sacred rites, as he promised through the law. We trust in God, that he will soon have mercy on us and gather us together from everywhere under the heavens to his holy Place, for he has rescued us from great perils and has purified his Place.
              [2MACC 2:17-18]
"Like my brothers, I offer up my body and my life for our ancestral laws, imploring God to show mercy soon to our nation, and by afflictions and blows to make you confess that he alone is God.
Through me and my brothers, may there be an end to the wrath of the Almighty that has justly fallen on our whole nation." At that, the king became enraged and treated him even worse than the others, since he bitterly resented the boy's contempt. Thus he too died undefiled, putting all his trust in the Lord.
The mother was last to die, after her sons.
              [2MACC 7:37-41]
"They trust in weapons and acts of
daring," he said, "but we trust in almighty God, who can
by a mere nod destroy not only those who attack us, but the whole
              world." [2MACC 8:18]
Offer fitting sacrifice and trust in the LORD.
              [PS 4:6]
Those who honor your name trust in you; you
never forsake those who seek you, LORD. [PS 9:11]
I trust in your faithfulness. Grant my heart
joy in your help, That I may sing of the LORD, "How good our
God has been to me!" [PS 13:6]
God's way is unerring; the LORD'S promise is
tried and true; he is a shield for all who trust in him. [PS
              18:31]
The law of the LORD is perfect, refreshing
the soul. The decree of the LORD is trustworthy, giving wisdom to
              the simple. [PS 19:8]
For the king trusts in the LORD, stands firm
through the love of the Most High. [PS 21:8]
In you our ancestors trusted; they trusted and
you rescued them. To you they cried out and they escaped; in you
they trusted and were not disappointed. [PS 22:5-6]
I wait for you, O LORD; I lift up my soul to my God.
In you I trust; do not let me be disgraced; do not let my enemies gloat over me. No one is disgraced who waits for you, but only those who lightly break faith. [PS
              25:1-3]
Preserve my life and rescue me; do not let me be
disgraced, for I trust in you. [PS 25:20]
Grant me justice, LORD! I have walked without blame.
In the LORD I have trusted; I have not faltered. Test me, LORD, and try me; search my heart and mind.
              [PS 26:1-2]
Though an army encamp against me, my heart does
not fear; Though war be waged against me, even then do I trust.
              [PS 27:3]
The LORD is my strength and my shield, in whom
my heart trusted and found help. So my heart rejoices; with my
song I praise my God. [PS 28:7]
You hate those who serve worthless idols, but I
trust in the LORD. [PS 31:7]
My life is worn out by sorrow, my years by
sighing. My strength fails in affliction; my bones are consumed.
To all my foes I am a thing of scorn, to my neighbors, a dreaded
sight, a horror to my friends. When they see me in the street,
              they quickly shy away. I am forgotten, out of mind like the dead;
              I am like a shattered dish. I hear the whispers of the crowd;
terrors are all around me. They conspire against me; they plot to
take my life. But I trust in you, LORD; I say, "You are my
God." My times are in your hands; rescue me from my enemies,
from the hands of my pursuers. Let your face shine on your
servant; save me in your kindness. [PS 31:11-17]
How great is your goodness, Lord, stored up
for those who fear you. You display it for those who trust you, in
the sight of all the people. [PS 31:20]
Many are the sorrows of the wicked, but love surrounds those who trust in the LORD. Be glad in the LORD and rejoice, you just; exult, all you upright of heart.
              [PS 32:10-11]
Sing to God a new song; skillfully play with joyful chant. For the LORD'S word is true; all his works are trustworthy. The LORD loves justice and right and fills the earth with goodness.
              [PS 33:3-5]
Our soul waits for the LORD, who is our help and shield. For in God our hearts rejoice; in your holy name we trust. May your kindness,
LORD, be upon us; we have put our hope in you. [PS 33:20-22]
Trust in the LORD and do good that you may dwell
in the land and live secure. [PS 37:3]
Commit your way to the LORD; trust that God will act And make your integrity shine like the dawn, your vindication like noonday.
              [PS 37:5-6]
I waited, waited for the LORD; who bent down and heard my cry,
Drew me out of the pit of destruction, out of the mud of the swamp,
Set my feet upon rock, steadied my steps, And put a new song in my mouth, a hymn to our God.
Many shall look on in awe and they shall trust in the LORD. [PS
              40:2-4]
Happy those whose trust is the LORD, who turn
not to idolatry or to those who stray after falsehood. [PS 40:5]
But I, like an olive tree in the house of God, trust in God's faithful love forever. I will praise you always for what you have done.
I will proclaim before the faithful that your name is good. [PS
              52:10-11]
God will give me freedom and peace from those
who war against me, though there are many who oppose me. God, who
sits enthroned forever, will hear me and humble them. For they
will not mend their ways; they have no fear of God. They strike
out at friends and go back on their promises. Softer than butter
is their speech, but war is in their hearts. Smoother than oil are
their words, but they are unsheathed swords. Cast your care upon
the LORD, who will give you support. God will never allow the
righteous to stumble. But you, God, will bring them down to the
pit of destruction. These bloodthirsty liars will not live half
their days, but I put my trust in you. [PS 55:19-24]
Have mercy on me, God, for I am treated harshly; attackers press me all the day. My foes treat me harshly all the day; yes, many are my attackers.
O Most High, when I am afraid, in you I place my trust. God, I praise your promise; in you I trust, I do not fear. What can mere flesh do to me?
              [PS 56:2-5]
They are evil; watch them, God! Cast the nations down in your
anger! My wanderings you have noted; are my tears not stored in your vial, recorded in your book? My foes turn back when I call on you. This I know: God is on my side. God, I praise your promise; in you I trust, I do not fear. What can mere mortals do to me?
              [PS 56:8-12]
My soul, be at rest in God alone, from whom comes my hope. God alone is my rock and my salvation, my secure height; I shall not fall.
My safety and glory are with God, my strong rock and refuge. Trust God at all times, my people! Pour out your hearts to God our refuge!
              [Taken from PS 62:6-9]
My God, rescue me from the power of the wicked, from the clutches of the violent. You are my hope, Lord; my trust, GOD, from my youth. On you I depend since birth; from my mother's womb you are my strength; my hope in you never wavers. I have become a portent to many, but you are my strong refuge! My mouth shall be filled with your praise, shall sing your glory every day.
              [PS 71:4-8]
God set up a decree in Jacob, established a law
in Israel: What he commanded our ancestors, they were to teach
their children; That the next generation might come to know,
children yet to be born. In turn they were to recite them to their
children, that they too might put their trust in God, And not
forget the works of God, keeping his commandments. They were not
to be like their ancestors, a rebellious and defiant generation, A
generation whose heart was not constant, whose spirit was not
faithful to God [Taken from PS 78:5-8]
The LORD heard and grew angry; fire blazed up
against Jacob; anger flared up against Israel. For they did not
believe in God, did not trust in his saving power. So he commanded
the skies above; the doors of heaven he opened. God rained manna
upon them for food; bread from heaven he gave them. All ate a meal
fit for heroes; food he sent in abundance. He stirred up the east
wind in the heavens; by his power God brought on the south wind. [PS
              78:21-26]
Better one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere.
Better the threshold of the house of my God than a home in the tents of the wicked. For a sun and shield is the LORD God, bestowing all grace and glory.
The LORD withholds no good thing from those who walk without reproach. O LORD of hosts, happy are those who trust in you!
              [PS 84:11-13]
I will listen for the word of God; surely
the LORD will proclaim peace To his people, to the faithful, to
those who trust in him. [PS 85:9]
Hear me, LORD, and answer me, for I am poor and oppressed.
Preserve my life, for I am loyal; save your servant who trusts in you.
You are my God; pity me, Lord; to you I call all the day. Gladden the soul of your servant; to you, Lord, I lift up my soul. Lord, you are kind and forgiving, most loving to all who call on you. LORD, hear my prayer; listen to my cry for help. In this time of trouble I call, for you will answer me.
              [PS 86:1-7]
Hallelujah! Happy are those who fear the LORD, who greatly delight in God's commands. Their descendants shall be mighty in the land, generation upright and blessed. Wealth and riches shall be in their homes; their prosperity shall endure forever. They shine through the darkness, a light for the upright; they are gracious, merciful, and just. All goes well for those gracious in lending, who conduct their affairs with justice. They shall never be shaken; the just shall be remembered forever. They shall not fear an ill report; their hearts are steadfast, trusting the LORD. Their hearts are tranquil, without fear, till at last they look down on their foes.
Lavishly they give to the poor; their prosperity shall endure forever; their horn shall be exalted in honor. The wicked shall be angry to see this; they will gnash their teeth and waste away; the desires of the wicked come to nothing.
              [PS 112:1-10]
The house of Israel trusts in the LORD, who is their help and shield.
The house of Aaron trusts in the LORD, who is their help and shield.
Those who fear the LORD trust in the LORD, who is their help and shield. The LORD remembers us and will bless us, will bless the house of Israel, will bless the house of Aaron, Will bless those who fear the LORD, small and great alike.
              [PS 115:9-13]
Let your love come to me, LORD, salvation in
accord with your promise. Let me answer my taunters with a word,
for I trust in your word. Do not take the word of truth from my
mouth, for in your edicts is my hope. I will keep your teachings
always, for all time and forever. I will walk freely in an open
space because I cherish your precepts. I will speak openly of your
decrees without fear even before kings. I delight in your
commands, which I dearly love. [PS 119:41-47]
Teach me wisdom and knowledge, for in your
              commands I trust. [PS 119:66]
Like Mount Zion are they who trust in the LORD, unshakable,
forever enduring. As mountains surround Jerusalem, the LORD surrounds his people both now and forever.
              [PS 125:1-2]
Hasten to answer me, LORD; for my spirit fails
me. Do not hide your face from me, lest I become like those
descending to the pit. At dawn let me hear of your kindness, for
in you I trust. Show me the path I should walk, for to you I
entrust my life. Rescue me, LORD, from my foes, for in you I hope.
Teach me to do your will, for you are my God. May your kind spirit
guide me on ground that is level. For your name's sake, LORD, give
me life; in your justice lead me out of distress. [PS 143:7-11]
Blessed be the LORD, my rock, who trains my hands for battle, my fingers for war; My safe guard and my fortress, my stronghold, my deliverer,
My shield, in whom I trust, who subdues peoples under me. [PS
              144:1-2]
All your works give you thanks, O LORD and your faithful bless you. They speak of the glory of your reign and tell of your great works, Making known to all your power, the glorious splendor of your rule. Your reign is a reign for all ages, your dominion for all generations.
The LORD is trustworthy in every word, and faithful in every work. The LORD supports all who are falling and raises up all who are bowed down.
              [PS 145:10-14]
Trust in the LORD with all your heart, on your own intelligence rely not; In all your ways be mindful of him, and he will make straight your paths.
              [PROV 3:5-6]
Entrust your works to the LORD, and your plans
              will succeed. [PROV 16:3]
He who plans a thing will be successful; happy
is he who trusts in the LORD! [PROV 16:20]
Say not, "I will repay evil!" Trust in
the LORD and he will help you. [PROV 20:22]
That your trust may be in the LORD, I make known
to you the words of Amen-em-Ope. [PROV 22:19]
The greedy man stirs up disputes, but he who
trusts in the LORD will prosper. [PROV 28:25]
The fear of man brings a snare, but he who
trusts in the LORD is safe. [PROV 29:25]
They shall judge nations and rule over peoples,
and the LORD shall be their King forever. Those who trust in him
shall understand truth, and the faithful shall abide with him in
love: Because grace and mercy are with his holy ones, and his care
is with the elect. But the wicked shall receive a punishment to
match their thoughts, since they neglected justice and forsook the
LORD. For he who despises wisdom and instruction is doomed. Vain
is their hope, fruitless are their labors, and worthless are their
              works. [WISDOM 3:8-11]
For your creation, serving you, its maker, grows
tense for punishment against the wicked, but is relaxed in benefit
for those who trust in you. [WISDOM 16:24]
Trust God and he will help you; make straight
your ways and hope in him. [SIRACH 2:6]
You who fear the LORD, trust him, and your
reward will not be lost. [SIRACH 2:8]
Compassionate and merciful is the LORD; he forgives sins, he saves in time of trouble. Woe to craven hearts and drooping hands, to the sinner who treads a double path! Woe to the faint of heart who trust not, who therefore will have no shelter!
              [SIRACH 2:11-13]
Admire not how sinners live, but trust in the
LORD and wait for his light; For it is easy with the LORD
suddenly, in an instant, to make a poor man rich. [SIRACH 11:21]
He who keeps the law preserves himself; and he
who trusts in the LORD shall not be put to shame. [SIRACH 32:24]
The prudent man trusts in the word of the LORD,
and the law is dependable for him as a divine oracle. [SIRACH
              33:3]
For I will trust in the LORD, who is hiding his
face from the house of Jacob; yes, I will wait for him. [ISA 8:17]
On that day they will sing this song in the land of
Judah: "A strong city have we; he sets up walls and ramparts to protect us. Open up the gates to let in a nation that is just, one that keeps faith. A nation of firm purpose you keep in peace; in peace, for its trust in you."
Trust in the LORD forever! For the LORD is an eternal Rock.
              [ISA 26:1-4]
Who among you fears the LORD, heeds his
servant's voice, And walks in darkness without any light, Trusting
in the name of the LORD and relying on his God? [ISA 50:10]
Thus says the LORD: Cursed is the man who trusts
in human beings, who seeks his strength in flesh, whose heart
turns away from the LORD. He is like a barren bush in the desert
that enjoys no change of season, But stands in a lava waste, a
salt and empty earth. Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD,
whose hope is the LORD. He is like a tree planted beside the
waters that stretches out its roots to the stream: It fears not
the heat when it comes, its leaves stay green; In the year of
drought it shows no distress, but still bears fruit. [JER 17:5-8]
O LORD of hosts, you who test the just, who
probe mind and heart, Let me witness the vengeance you take on
them, for to you I have entrusted my cause. [JER 20:12]
While Jeremiah was still imprisoned in the
quarters of the guard, the word of the LORD came to him: Go, tell
this to Ebed-melech the Cushite: Thus says the LORD of hosts, the
God of Israel: Behold, I am now fulfilling the words I spoke
against this city, for evil and not for good; and this before your
very eyes. But on that day I will rescue you, says the LORD; you
shall not be handed over to the men of whom you are afraid. I will
make certain that you escape and do not fall by the sword. Your
life shall be spared as booty, because you trusted in me, says the
              LORD. [JER 39:15-18]
Leave your orphans behind, I will keep them
alive; your widows, let them trust in me. [JER 49:11]
I have taken off the garment of peace, have put
on sackcloth for my prayer of supplication, and while I live I
will cry out to the Eternal God. "Fear not, my children; call
upon God, who will deliver you from oppression at enemy hands. I
have trusted in the Eternal God for your welfare, and joy has come
to me from the Holy One Because of the mercy that will swiftly
reach you from your eternal savior. With mourning and lament I
sent you forth, but God will give you back to me with enduring
gladness and joy. As Zion's neighbors lately saw you taken
captive, so shall they soon see God's salvation come to you, with
great glory and the splendor of the Eternal God. My children, bear
patiently the anger that has come from God upon you; Your enemies
have persecuted you, and you will soon see their destruction" [Taken from BARUCH 4:20-25]
              Nebuchadnezzar exclaimed, "Blessed be the
God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, who sent his angel to
deliver the servants that trusted in him; they disobeyed the royal
command and yielded their bodies rather than serve or worship any
god except their own God." [DAN 3:95]
Daniel answered the king: "O king, live
forever! My God has sent his angel and closed the lions' mouths so
that they have not hurt me. For I have been found innocent before
him; neither to you have I done any harm, O king!" This gave the king great joy. At his order
Daniel was removed from the den, unhurt because he trusted in his
              God. [DAN 6:24]
Susanna, very delicate and beautiful, was veiled; but those wicked men ordered her to uncover her face so as to sate themselves with her beauty. All her relatives and the onlookers were weeping. In the midst of the people the two elders rose up and laid their hands on her head. Through her tears she
looked up to heaven, for she trusted in the Lord wholeheartedly. [DAN
              13:31-35]
              Put no trust in a friend,  have no confidence in a companion;
Against her who lies in your bosom guard the portals of your mouth. For the son dishonors his father, the daughter rises up against her mother,
The daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law, and a man's enemies are those of his household. But as for me, I will look to the LORD, I will put my trust in God my savior; my God will hear me!
              [MICAH 7:5-7]
              Woe to the city, rebellious and polluted,  to the tyrannical city! She hears no voice,  accepts no correction;
In the LORD she has not trusted, to her God she has not drawn near.
              [ZEPH 3:1-2]
Then they who fear the LORD spoke with one
another, and the LORD listened attentively; And a record book was
written before him of those who fear the LORD and trust in his
name. And they shall be mine, says the LORD of hosts, my own
special possession, on the day I take action. And I will have
compassion on them, as a man has compassion on his son who serves
him. Then you will again see the distinction between the just and
the wicked; Between him who serves God, and him who does not serve
him. For lo, the day is coming, blazing like an oven, when all the
proud and all evildoers will be stubble, And the day that is
coming will set them on fire, leaving them neither root nor
branch, says the LORD of hosts. [MAL 3:16-19]
After they had crucified him, they divided his
garments by casting lots; then they sat down and kept watch over
him there. And they placed over his head the written charge
against him: This is Jesus, the King of the Jews. Two
revolutionaries were crucified with him, one on his right and the
other on his left. Those passing by reviled him, shaking their
heads and saying, "You who would destroy the temple and
rebuild it in three days, save yourself, if you are the Son of
God, (and) come down from the cross!" Likewise the chief
priests with the scribes and elders mocked him and said, "He
saved others; he cannot save himself. So he is the king of Israel!
Let him come down from the cross now, and we will believe in him.
He trusted in God; let him deliver him now if he wants him. For he
said, 'I am the Son of God.'" [MT 27:35-43]
John answered and said, "No one can receive
anything except what has been given him from heaven. You
yourselves can testify that I said (that) I am not the Messiah,
but that I was sent before him. The one who has the bride is the
bridegroom; the best man, who stands and listens for him, rejoices
greatly at the bridegroom's voice. So this joy of mine has been
made complete. He must increase; I must decrease." The one
who comes from above is above all. The one who is of the earth is
earthly and speaks of earthly things. But the one who comes from
heaven (is above all). He testifies to what he has seen and heard,
but no one accepts his testimony. Whoever does accept his
testimony certifies that God is trustworthy. For the one whom God
sent speaks the words of God. He does not ration his gift of the
Spirit. The Father loves the Son and has given everything over to
him. Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever
disobeys the Son will not see life, but the wrath of God remains
              upon him. [JN 3:27-36]
When many would no longer eat, Paul stood among
them and said, "Men, you should have taken my advice and not
have set sail from Crete and you would have avoided this
disastrous loss. I urge you now to keep up your courage; not one
of you will be lost, only the ship. For last night an angel of the
God to whom (I) belong and whom I serve stood by me and said, 'Do
not be afraid, Paul. You are destined to stand before Caesar; and
behold, for your sake, God has granted safety to all who are
sailing with you.' Therefore, keep up your courage, men; I trust
in God that it will turn out as I have been told. We are destined
to run aground on some island." [ACTS 27:21-26]
Now in regard to virgins, I have no commandment
from the Lord, but I give my opinion as one who by the Lord's
mercy is trustworthy. So this is what I think best because of the
present distress: that it is a good thing for a person to remain
as he is. Are you bound to a wife? Do not seek a separation. Are
you free of a wife? Then do not look for a wife. If you marry,
however, you do not sin, nor does an unmarried woman sin if she
marries; but such people will experience affliction in their
earthly life, and I would like to spare you that. [1COR 7:25-28]
              We do not want you to be unaware, brothers, of the affliction that came to us in the province of Asia;
we were utterly weighed down beyond our strength, so that we despaired even of life. Indeed, we had accepted within ourselves the sentence of death,
that we might trust not in ourselves but in God who raises the dead. He rescued us from such great danger of death, and he will continue to rescue us; in him we have put our hope (that) he will also rescue us again, as you help us with prayer, so that thanks may be given by many on our behalf for the gift granted us through the prayers of many.
              [2COR 1:8-11]
For it was fitting that he, for whom and through whom all things exist, in bringing many children to glory, should make the leader to their salvation perfect through suffering. He who consecrates and those who are being consecrated all have one origin. Therefore, he is not ashamed to call them "brothers," saying:
              "I will proclaim your name to my brothers,  in the midst of the assembly I will praise you";
and again: "I will put my trust in him"; and again: "Behold, I and the children God has given me."
