Prayer |
| Adults' Prayer
(Children) |
O
Jesus, friend of little children, Thou who, from Thy tenderest
years, didst manifestly grow in wisdom and grace, before God and
men; Thou who, at the age of twelve years, sitting in the temple
in the midst of the Doctors, didst listen to them with attention,
didst ask questions of them in all humility, and didst win their
admiration by the prudence and wisdom of Thy words; Thou who didst
receive the little children so gladly, blessing them and saying to
Thine Apostles: 'Suffer the little children to come unto Me, for
of such is the kingdom of heaven,' inspire me, even as Thou didst
inspire Saint Peter Canisius, the model and guide of the perfect
catechist, with a deep respect and holy affection for little
children, sincere zeal and devotion in teaching them the elements
of Christian doctrine, and a special aptitude for making them
understand its mysteries and love its beauty. I ask it of Thee, my
Jesus, through the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Amen.

Sweetest
Jesus, who, being subject as a child to Mary and Joseph at
Nazareth, didst leave to children an excellent pattern of
affection and obedience to parents, and of wondrous reverence for
all men, grant, I most earnestly beseech Thee, that I may strive
to see Thee always and in all things, so that as my years
increase, I too may increase in Thy grace and love: Who livest and
reignest world without end. Amen. (Raccolta)

| Prayer for a Dying
Person |
Almighty
and merciful God, who giveth to mankind both the remedies of
salvation and the gifts of life everlasting; look mercifully on
Thy servant who is afflicted with sickness of the body, and
refresh the soul which Thou hast created; so that at the hour of
its going hence, it may be found worthy to be borne, free from all
stain of sin, by the hands of the holy angels, to Thee, its
Creator. Through our Lord. (Collect)

Most
merciful Jesus, who art the consolation and salvation of all who
put their trust in Thee, we humbly beseech Thee, by Thy most
bitter Passion, grant the recovery of his/her health to thy
servant (N.), provided this be for his/her soul's welfare, that
with us he/she may praise and magnify Thy Holy Name. But if it be
Thy Holy Will to call him/her out of this world, strengthen
him/her in his/her last hour, grant him/her a peaceful death and
life everlasting. Amen. Our Father... Hail Mary... Glory Be...

Emigrants |
O
Jesus, who in the very first days of Thine earthly life wast
compelled, together with Mary, Thy loving Mother, and Saint
Joseph, to leave Thy native land and to endure in Egypt the misery
and discomforts of poor emigrants, turn Thine eyes upon our
brethren, who, far away from their dear country and from all that
is dear to them, are not infrequently constrained to struggle with
the difficulties of a new life, and who are likewise often exposed
to grave dangers and snares for their immortal souls. Be Thou
their guide in their uncertain journey, their help in trouble,
their comfort in sorrow; keep them safe in their faith, holy in
their lives, and faithful to their children, their wives, and
their parents; grant, O Lord, that we may be able to embrace them
affectionately once more in their native land, and hereafter to
live inseparably united to them at the foot of Thy throne in our
heavenly country. Amen. (Raccolta)

Almighty
and everlasting God, whose will it is that all men should be saved
and that none should perish, look upon the souls that are deceived
by the guile of Satan, in order that the hearts of them that have
gone astray may put aside all the perverseness of heresy, and,
being truly repentant, may return to the unity of Thy truth.
Through Christ our Lord. Amen. (Roman Missal)

| Prayer for
Motorists |
O
God, the Father Almighty, Thou hast created man in Thine own
image, infusing into his body an immortal soul which sighs for
Thee, and in its journeys over the highways of faith seeks its
rest in union with Thee. Grant to us motorists, who have to travel
over the roads of this world in the service of our brethren, a
sense of our grave responsibility and point out to us the way of
charity and prudence. O Jesus, Word Incarnate, who here below
didst cross over land and sea, to escape from enemies, to heal the
sick, to preach the kingdom of heaven, make us energetic and
persevering in good works and keep us ever in Thy grace. O Virgin
Immaculate, thou wast a support to the Child Jesus on the way
during the time of exile, a guide in His journeys as a young man
to the Holy City, and a companion at His side in the ascent to
Calvary. Now that thou hast been taken up into heaven, and art the
Queen of the world, the Mother of goodness and of mercy, the way
to heaven and the gateway thereof, be propitious toward us during
our earthly journey, defend us against the dangers of body and
soul to which we are continually exposed, and make us kind and
patient towards our neighbor in return for the confidence he
places in us. O heavenly spirits who travel through space as
messengers of the Most High, O Saints of heaven, above all, you
who were Apostles and Missionaries, bearers of Christ, obtain for
us a living faith which directs our life to God and keeps us
always in readiness for the final journey towards the eternal
Father and where together with you we may praise God forever and
ever. Amen. (Pope John XXIII)

| Prayer for Seniors |
O Sacred Heart of Jesus! Make
us remember, when the world is cold and dreary, and we know not
where to turn for comfort, that there is always one spot bright
and cheerful - the Sanctuary. When we are in desolation of spirit,
when all who are dear to us have passed away like summer flowers,
and none are left to us or care for us, whisper to our troubled
souls that there is one Friend Who dies not, One Whose love never
changes, the Sacred Heart of Jesus on the Altar. When sorrows
thicken and crush us with their burden, when we look in vain for
comfort, let Thy dear words come forth will full force from the
Tabernacle: 'Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily
burdened, and I will refresh you.' Would that we could realize the
pure happiness of possessing Thy sympathy. Would that we could
feel - when we are crushed and humbled, when the hope we have
lived for has withered, when sorrows and trials that we dare not
reveal to any make our souls sink well nigh unto death, when we
look in vain for someone to understand us, one who will enter into
our miseries, make us remember that there is One on the Altar Who
knows every fiber of our hearts, every sorrow, every pain special
to our peculiar natures, and Who deeply sympathizes with us.
Compassionate Heart of Jesus! Our hearts crave for sympathy, and
to suffer seems nothing to the bitterness of suffering alone.

| Prayer for
Seniors (Psalm 70/71) |
In
you, LORD, I take refuge; let me never be put to shame. In your
justice rescue and deliver me; listen to me and save me! Be my
rock and refuge, my secure stronghold; for you are my rock and
fortress. My God, rescue me from the power of the wicked, from the
clutches of the violent. You are my hope, Lord; my trust, GOD,
from my youth. On you I depend since birth; from my mother's womb
you are my strength; my hope in you never wavers. I have become a
portent to many, but you are my strong refuge! My mouth shall be
filled with your praise, shall sing your glory every day. Do not
cast me aside in my old age; as my strength fails, do not forsake
me. For my enemies speak against me; they watch and plot against
me. They say, "God has abandoned that one. Pursue, seize the
wretch! No one will come to the rescue!" God, do not stand
far from me; my God, hasten to help me. Bring to a shameful end
those who attack me; Cover with contempt and scorn those who seek
my ruin. I will always hope in you and add to all your praise. My
mouth shall proclaim your just deeds, day after day your acts of
deliverance, though I cannot number them all. I will speak of the
mighty works of the Lord; O GOD, I will tell of your singular
justice. God, you have taught me from my youth; to this day I
proclaim your wondrous deeds. Now that I am old and gray, do not
forsake me, God, That I may proclaim your might to all generations
yet to come, Your power and justice, God, to the highest heaven.
You have done great things; O God, who is your equal? You have
sent me many bitter afflictions, but once more revive me. From the
watery depths of the earth once more raise me up. Restore my
honor; turn and comfort me, That I may praise you with the lyre
for your faithfulness, my God, And sing to you with the harp, O
Holy One of Israel! My lips will shout for joy as I sing your
praise; my soul, too, which you have redeemed. Yes, my tongue
shall recount your justice day by day. For those who sought my
ruin will have been shamed and disgraced.

| Young Men's
Prayer (St. Aloysius) |
O
most glorious Saint Aloysius, who hast been honored by the Church
with the fair title of 'angelic youth,' because of the life of
utmost purity thou didst lead here on earth, I come before thy
presence this day with all the devotion of my mind and heart. O
perfect exemplar, kind and powerful patron of young men, how great
is my need of thee! The world and the devil are trying to ensnare
me; I am conscious of the ardor of my passions; I know full well
the weakness and inconstancy of my age. Who shall be able to keep
me safe, if not though O Saint of angelic purity, the glory and
honor, the loving protector of youth? To thee, therefore, I have
recourse with all my soul, to thee I commit myself with all my
heart. I hereby resolve, promise and desire to be especially
devout toward thee, to glorify thee by imitating thy extraordinary
virtues and in particular thy angelic purity, to copy thy example,
and to promote devotion to thee among my companions. O dear Saint
Aloysius, do thou guard and defend me always, in order that, under
thy protection and following thy example, I may one day be able to
join with thee in seeing and praising my God for ever in heaven.
Amen. (Raccolta)
