deeds had been done, since they had not repented. "Woe to
you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty deeds done
in your midst had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would long
ago have repented in sackcloth and ashes. But I tell you, it will
be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon on the day of judgment than
for you. And as for you, Capernaum: 'Will you be exalted to
heaven? You will go down to the netherworld.' For if the mighty
deeds done in your midst had been done in Sodom, it would have
remained until this day. But I tell you, it will be more tolerable
for the land of Sodom on the day of judgment than for you."
[MT 11:20-24] [Jesus said,] "I tell you, on the day of judgment people will render an
account for every careless word they speak. By your words you will
be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned." [Taken
              from MT
12:36-37] Then some of the scribes and Pharisees said to him,
"Teacher, we wish to see a sign from you." He said to
them in reply, "An evil and unfaithful generation seeks a
sign, but no sign will be given it except the sign of Jonah the
prophet. Just as Jonah was in the belly of the whale three days
and three nights, so will the Son of Man be in the heart of the
earth three days and three nights. At the judgment, the men of
Nineveh will arise with this generation and condemn it, because
they repented at the preaching of Jonah; and there is something
greater than Jonah here. At the judgment the queen of the south
will arise with this generation and condemn it, because she came
from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and
there is something greater than Solomon here." [MT 12:38-42] He proposed another parable to them. "The kingdom
of heaven may be likened to a man who sowed good seed in his
field. While everyone was asleep his enemy came and sowed weeds all through the wheat, and then went off. When the crop grew and bore fruit, the weeds appeared as
well. The slaves of the householder came to him and said, 'Master,
did you not sow good seed in your field? Where have the weeds come
from?' He answered, 'An enemy has done this.' His slaves said to
him, 'Do you want us to go and pull them up?' He replied, 'No, if you pull up the weeds you might uproot
the wheat along with them. Let them grow together until harvest; then at harvest time
I will say to the harvesters, "First collect the weeds and
tie them in bundles for burning; but gather the wheat into my
barn."'" [MT 13:24-30] Then, dismissing the crowds, he went into the house.
His disciples approached him and said, "Explain to us the
parable of the weeds in the field." He said in reply, "He who sows good seed is the Son
of Man, the field is the world, the good seed the children of the
kingdom. The weeds are the children of the evil one, and the enemy who sows them is the devil. The harvest is the
end of the age, and the harvesters are angels. Just as weeds are collected and burned (up) with fire, so
will it be at the end of the age. The Son of Man will send his angels, and they will collect
out of his kingdom all who cause others to sin and all
evildoers. They will throw them into the fiery furnace, where there
will be wailing and grinding of teeth. Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom
of their Father. Whoever has ears ought to hear." [MT 13:36-43] Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net thrown into
the sea... When it is full they haul it ashore and sit down to put what
is good into buckets. What is bad they throw away. Thus it will be at the end of the age. The angels will go
out and separate the wicked from the righteous and throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be
wailing and grinding of teeth. [Taken from MT 13:47-50]  Then Jesus said to his disciples: If any man will come after
me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.
For he that will save his life, shall lose it: and he that shall
lose his life for my sake, shall find it. For what doth it profit
a man, if he gain the whole world and suffer the loss of his own
soul? Or what exchange shall a man give for his soul? For the Son
of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels: and
then will he render to every man according to his works. [MT
16:24-27] [Jesus said,] "Whoever causes one of these little ones who
believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a great
millstone hung around his neck and to be drowned in the depths of
the sea. Woe to the world because of things that cause sin! Such
things must come, but woe to the one through whom they come! If your hand or foot causes you to sin,
              cut it off and
throw it away. It is better for you to enter into life maimed or
crippled than with two hands or two feet to be thrown into eternal
fire. And if your eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it
away. It is better for you to enter into life with one eye than
with two eyes to be thrown into fiery Gehenna." [Taken from
MT 18:6-9] Jesus again in reply spoke to them in parables, saying, "The kingdom of heaven may be likened to a king who gave a wedding feast
for his son. He dispatched his servants to summon the invited guests to the feast, but they refused to come... The servants went out into the streets and gathered all they
found, bad and good alike, and the hall was filled with guests. But when the king came in to meet the guests he saw a man
there not dressed in a wedding garment. He said to him, 'My friend, how is it that you came in here without a wedding garment?' But he was reduced to silence. Then the king said to his attendants, 'Bind his hands and feet, and cast him into the darkness outside, where there will be wailing and grinding of teeth.' Many are invited, but few are chosen." [Taken from
MT 22:1-3,10-14] "Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites. You
pay tithes of mint and dill and cumin, and have neglected the
weightier things of the law: judgment and mercy and fidelity.
(But) these you should have done, without neglecting the others."
[MT 23:23] "Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites. You
build the tombs of the prophets and adorn the memorials of the
righteous, and you say, 'If we had lived in the days of our
ancestors, we would not have joined them in shedding the prophets'
blood.' Thus you bear witness against yourselves that you are the
children of those who murdered the prophets; now fill up what your
ancestors measured out! You serpents, you brood of vipers, how can
you flee from the judgment of Gehenna?" [MT 23:29-33] "Amen, I say to you, he will put him in charge of all his property. But if that wicked servant says to himself, 'My master is long delayed,'
and begins to beat his fellow servants, and eat and drink with drunkards, the servant's master will come on an unexpected day and at an unknown hour and will punish him severely
and assign him a place with the hypocrites, where there will be wailing and grinding of teeth."
              [MT 24:47-51] "It will be as when a man who was going on a journey  called in his servants and entrusted his possessions to them. To one he gave five talents;
to another, two; to a third, one - to each according to his ability. Then he went away... Then the one who had received the one talent came forward and
said, 'Master, I knew you were a demanding person, harvesting where you did not plant and gathering where you did not scatter; so out of fear I went off and buried your talent in the ground. Here it is back.' His master said to him in reply, 'You wicked, lazy servant!
So you knew that I harvest where I did not plant and gather where I did not scatter? Should you not then have put my money in the bank so that I could have got it back with interest on my return? Now then! Take the talent from him and give it to the one with ten. For to everyone who has, more will be given and he will grow rich; but from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away. And throw this useless servant into the darkness outside, where there will be wailing and grinding of teeth.'"
[Taken from MT 25:14-15,24-30] [Jesus said,] "When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit upon his glorious throne, and all the nations
will be assembled before him. And he will separate them one from another, as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. He will place the sheep on his right and the goats on his left. Then the king will say to those on his right, 'Come, you who are blessed by my Father. Inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, a stranger and you welcomed me, naked and you clothed me, ill and you cared for me, in prison and you visited me.' Then the righteous
will answer him and say, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? When did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you?
When did we see you ill or in prison, and visit you?' And the king will say to them in reply, 'Amen, I say to you, whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me.'
Then he will say to those on his left, 'Depart from me, you accursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. For I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me no drink, a stranger and you gave me no welcome, naked and you gave me no clothing, ill and in prison, and you did not care for me.' Then they will answer and say, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or ill or in prison, and not minister to your needs?' He will answer them, 'Amen, I say to you, what you did not do for one of these least ones, you did not do for me.' And these will go off to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life."
[Taken from MT 31-46] [Jesus said,] "Whoever causes one of these little ones who believe (in me) to sin, it would be better for him if a great millstone were put around his neck and he were thrown into the sea. If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter into life maimed than with two hands to go into
Gehenna, into the unquenchable fire. And if your foot causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter into life crippled than with two feet to be thrown into
Gehenna. And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out. Better for you to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye than with two eyes to be thrown into
Gehenna, where 'their worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched.'"
[Taken from MK 9:42-48] In the course of his teaching he said, "Beware of the scribes, who
like to go around in long robes and accept greetings in the marketplaces, seats of honor in synagogues, and places of honor at banquets. They devour the houses of widows and, as a pretext, recite lengthy prayers. They will receive a very severe
              condemnation."
[MK 12:38-40] [John the Baptist] said to the crowds who came out to be baptized by him, "You brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the coming wrath? Produce good fruits as evidence of your repentance; and do not begin to say to yourselves, 'We have Abraham as our father,' for I tell you, God can raise up children to Abraham from these stones. Even now the ax lies at the root of the trees. Therefore every tree that does not produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire."
[Taken from LK 3:7-9] John answered them all, saying, "I am baptizing you with water, but one mightier than I is coming. I am not worthy to loosen the thongs of his sandals. He will baptize you with the
Holy Spirit and fire. His winnowing fan is in his hand to clear his threshing floor and to gather the wheat into his barn,
but the chaff he will burn with unquenchable fire."
[LK 3:16-17] After this the Lord appointed seventy (-two) others whom he
sent ahead of him in pairs to every town and place he intended to visit. Whatever town you enter and they welcome you, eat what is set before you, cure the sick in it and say to them, 'The kingdom of God is at hand
for you.' Whatever town you enter and they do not receive you, go out into the streets and say, 'The dust of your town that clings to our feet, even that we shake off against you.' Yet know this: the kingdom of God is at hand. I tell you, it will be more tolerable for Sodom on that day than for that town.
[LK 10:1,8-12] "Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the
mighty deeds done in your midst had been done in Tyre and Sidon,
they would long ago have repented, sitting in sackcloth and ashes.
But it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the judgment
than for you." [LK 10:13-14] While still more people gathered in the crowd, he said to them,
"This generation is an evil generation; it seeks a sign, but
no sign will be given it, except the sign of Jonah. Just as Jonah
became a sign to the Ninevites, so will the Son of Man be to this
generation. At the judgment the queen of the south will rise with
the men of this generation and she will condemn them, because she
came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon, and
there is something greater than Solomon here. At the judgment the
men of Nineveh will arise with this generation and condemn it,
because at the preaching of Jonah they repented, and there is
something greater than Jonah here." [LK 11:29-32] Woe to you Pharisees! You pay tithes of mint and of rue and of
every garden herb, but you pay no attention to judgment and to
love for God. These you should have done, without overlooking the
others. [LK 11:42] He said to them in reply, "Do you think that because these Galileans suffered in this way they were greater sinners than all other Galileans? By no means! But I tell you, if you do not repent, you will all perish as they did! Or those eighteen people who were killed when the tower at Siloam fell on them
              - do you think they were more guilty than everyone else who lived in Jerusalem? By no means! But I tell you, if you do not repent, you will all perish as they did!"
[LK 13:2-5] He passed through towns and villages, teaching as he went and making his way to Jerusalem. Someone asked him, "Lord, will only a few people be saved?" He answered them, "Strive to enter through the narrow gate, for many, I tell you, will attempt to enter but will not be strong enough. After the master of the house has arisen and locked the door, then will you stand outside knocking and saying, 'Lord, open the door for us.' He will say to you in reply, 'I do not know where you are from.' And you will say, 'We ate and drank in your company and you taught in our streets.' Then he will say to you, 'I do not know where (you) are from. Depart from me, all you evildoers!' And there will be wailing and grinding of teeth when you see Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob and all the prophets in the kingdom of God and you yourselves cast out."
[LK 13:22-28] Then, within the hearing of all the people, he said to (his) disciples, "Be on guard against the scribes, who like to go around in long robes and love greetings in marketplaces, seats of honor in synagogues, and places of honor at banquets. They devour the houses of widows and, as a pretext, recite lengthy prayers. They will receive a very severe condemnation."
[LK 20:45-47] "When you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies, know that
its desolation is at hand. Then those in Judea must flee to the
mountains. Let those within the city escape from it, and let those
in the countryside not enter the city, for these days are the time
of punishment when all the scriptures are fulfilled. Woe to
pregnant women and nursing mothers in those days, for a terrible
calamity will come upon the earth and a wrathful judgment upon
this people. They will fall by the edge of the sword and be taken
as captives to all the Gentiles; and Jerusalem will be trampled
underfoot by the Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are
fulfilled." [LK 21:20-24] Nor does the Father judge anyone, but he has given all judgment
to his Son, so that all may honor the Son just as they honor the
Father. Whoever does not honor the Son does not honor the Father
who sent him. [JN 5:22-23] For just as the Father has life in himself, so also he gave to
his Son the possession of life in himself. And he gave him power
to exercise judgment, because he is the Son of Man. Do not be
amazed at this, because the hour is coming in which all who are in
the tombs will hear his voice and will come out, those who have
done good deeds to the resurrection of life, but those who have
done wicked deeds to the resurrection of condemnation. "I
cannot do anything on my own; I judge as I hear, and my judgment
is just, because I do not seek my own will but the will of the one
who sent me." [JN 5:26-30] You judge by appearances, but I do not judge anyone. And even
if I should judge, my judgment is valid, because I am not alone,
but it is I and the Father who sent me. [JN 8:15-16] Then Jesus said, "I came into this world for judgment, so
that those who do not see might see, and those who do see might
become blind." [JN 9:39] "Father, glorify your name." Then a voice came from heaven,
"I have glorified it and will glorify it again." The
crowd there heard it and said it was thunder; but others said,
"An angel has spoken to him." Jesus answered and said,
"This voice did not come for my sake but for yours. Now is
the time of judgment on this world; now the ruler of this world will be driven out. And when I am lifted up from the earth, I will
draw everyone to myself." He said this indicating the kind of
death he would die. [JN 12:28-33] "I am the true vine, and my Father is the vine grower. He takes away every branch in me that does not bear fruit, and everyone that does he prunes
so that it bears more fruit. You are already pruned because of the word that I spoke to you. Remain in me, as I remain in you. Just as a branch cannot bear fruit on its own unless it remains on the vine, so neither can you unless you remain in me. I am the vine, you are the branches. Whoever remains in me and I in him will bear much fruit, because without me you can do nothing. Anyone who does not remain in me will be thrown out like a branch and wither; people will gather them and throw them into a fire and they will be burned."
[JN 15:1-6] And God spoke thus, 'His descendants shall be aliens in a land
not their own, where they shall be enslaved and oppressed for four
hundred years; but I will bring judgment on the nation they
serve,' God said, 'and after that they will come out and worship
me in this place.' [ACTS 7:6-7] It is my judgment, therefore, that we ought to stop troubling
the Gentiles who turn to God [Taken from ACTS 15:19] Then Paul said to him, "God will strike you, you
whitewashed wall. Do you indeed sit in judgment upon me according
to the law and yet in violation of the law order me to be
struck?" [ACTS 23:3] But as he spoke about righteousness and self-restraint and the
coming judgment, Felix became frightened and said, "You may
go for now; when I find an opportunity I shall summon you
again." [ACTS 24:25] Therefore, you are without excuse, every one of you who passes
judgment. For by the standard by which you judge another you
condemn yourself, since you, the judge, do the very same things.
We know that the judgment of God on those who do such things is
true. Do you suppose, then, you who judge those who engage in such
things and yet do them yourself, that you will escape the judgment
of God? Or do you hold his priceless kindness, forbearance, and
patience in low esteem, unaware that the kindness of God would
lead you to repentance? By your stubbornness and impenitent heart,
you are storing up wrath for yourself for the day of wrath and
revelation of the just judgment of God, who will repay everyone
according to his works: eternal life to those who seek glory,
honor, and immortality through perseverance in good works, but
wrath and fury to those who selfishly disobey the truth and obey
wickedness. [ROM 2:1-8] Indeed, those who are physically uncircumcised but carry out
the law will pass judgment on you, with your written law and
circumcision, who break the law. [ROM 2:27] And the gift is not like the result of the one person's
sinning. For after one sin there was the judgment that brought
condemnation; but the gift, after many transgressions, brought
acquittal. [ROM 5:16] Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God!
How inscrutable are his judgments and how unsearchable his ways!
[ROM 11:33] Therefore, whoever resists authority opposes what God has
appointed, and those who oppose it will bring judgment upon
themselves. [ROM 13:2] The one who eats must not despise the one who abstains, and the
one who abstains must not pass judgment on the one who eats; for
God has welcomed him. Who are you to pass judgment on someone else's servant? Before
his own master he stands or falls. And he will be upheld, for the
Lord is able to make him stand. [ROM 14:3-4] Why then do you judge your brother? Or you, why do you look
down on your brother? For we shall all stand before the judgment
seat of God; for it is written: "As I live, says the Lord,
every knee shall bend before me, and every tongue shall give
praise to God." So (then) each of us shall give an account of
himself (to God). [ROM 14:10-12] We have not received the spirit of the world but the Spirit
that is from God, so that we may understand the things freely
given us by God. And we speak about them not with words taught by
human wisdom, but with words taught by the Spirit, describing
spiritual realities in spiritual terms. Now the natural person
does not accept what pertains to the Spirit of God, for to him it
is foolishness, and he cannot understand it, because it is judged
spiritually. The spiritual person, however, can judge everything
but is not subject to judgment by anyone. For "who has
known the mind of the Lord, so as to counsel him?" But we
have the mind of Christ. [1COR 2:12-16] If anyone builds on this foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, or straw, the work of each will come to light, for the Day will disclose it. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire (itself) will test the quality of each one's
work. [1COR 3:12-13]  Thus should one regard us: as servants of Christ and stewards
of the mysteries of God. Now it is of course required of stewards
that they be found trustworthy. It does not concern me in the
least that I be judged by you or any human tribunal; I do not even
pass judgment on myself; I am not conscious of anything against
me, but I do not thereby stand acquitted; the one who judges me is
the Lord. Therefore, do not make any judgment before the appointed
time, until the Lord comes, for he will bring to light what is
hidden in darkness and will manifest the motives of our hearts,
and then everyone will receive praise from God. [1COR 4:1-5] It is widely reported that there is immorality among you, and
immorality of a kind not found even among pagans - a man living
with his father's wife. And you are inflated with pride. Should
you not rather have been sorrowful? The one who did this deed
should be expelled from your midst. I, for my part, although
absent in body but present in spirit, have already, as if present,
pronounced judgment on the one who has committed this deed, in the
name of (our) Lord Jesus: when you have gathered together and I am
with you in spirit with the power of the Lord Jesus, you are to
deliver this man to Satan for the destruction of his flesh, so
that his spirit may be saved on the day of the Lord. Your boasting
is not appropriate. Do you not know that a little yeast leavens
all the dough? [1COR 5:1-6] How can any one of you with a case against another dare to
bring it to the unjust for judgment instead of to the holy ones?
Do you not know that the holy ones will judge the world? If the
world is to be judged by you, are you unqualified for the lowest
law courts? Do you not know that we will judge angels? Then why
not everyday matters? If, therefore, you have courts for everyday
matters, do you seat as judges people of no standing in the
church? I say this to shame you. Can it be that there is not one
among you wise enough to be able to settle a case between
brothers? But rather brother goes to court against brother, and
that before unbelievers? Now indeed (then) it is, in any case, a
failure on your part that you have lawsuits against one another.
Why not rather put up with injustice? Why not rather let
yourselves be cheated? Instead, you inflict injustice and cheat,
and this to brothers. Do you not know that the unjust will not
inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither
fornicators nor idolaters nor adulterers nor boy prostitutes nor
practicing homosexuals nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards
nor slanderers nor robbers will inherit the kingdom of God. That
is what some of you used to be; but now you have had yourselves
washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the
Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God. [1COR 6:1-11] For I received from the Lord what I also handed on to you, that
the Lord Jesus, on the night he was handed over, took bread, and,
after he had given thanks, broke it and said, "This is my
body that is for you. Do this in remembrance of me." In the
same way also the cup, after supper, saying, "This cup is the
new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in
remembrance of me." For as often as you eat this bread and
drink the cup, you proclaim the death of the Lord until he comes.
Therefore whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord
unworthily will have to answer for the body and blood of the Lord.
A person should examine himself, and so eat the bread and drink
the cup. For anyone who eats and drinks without discerning the
body, eats and drinks judgment on himself. That is why many among
you are ill and infirm, and a considerable number are dying. If we
discerned ourselves, we would not be under judgment; but since we
are judged by (the) Lord, we are being disciplined so that we may
not be condemned along with the world. [1COR 11:23-32] For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so
that each one may receive recompense, according to what he did in
the body, whether good or evil. [2COR 5:10] Let no one, then, pass judgment on you in matters of food and
drink or with regard to a festival or new moon or sabbath. [COL
2:16] Whatever you do, do from the heart, as for the Lord and not for others, knowing that you will receive from the Lord the due payment of the inheritance; be slaves of the Lord Christ. For the wrongdoer will receive recompense for the wrong he committed, and there is no partiality. [COL
3:23-25]  Accordingly, we ourselves boast of you in the churches of God
regarding your endurance and faith in all your persecutions and
the afflictions you endure. This is evidence of the just judgment
of God, so that you may be considered worthy of the kingdom of God
for which you are suffering. [2THES 1:4-5] Therefore, God is sending them a deceiving power so that they may
believe the lie, that all who have not believed the truth but have approved wrongdoing may be condemned. But we ought to give thanks to God for you always, brothers loved by the Lord, because God chose you as the firstfruits
for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in truth.
[2THES 2:11-13] Some people's sins are public, preceding them to judgment; but
other people are followed by their sins. [1TM 5:24] Avoid foolish arguments, genealogies, rivalries, and quarrels
about the law, for they are useless and futile. After a first and
second warning, break off contact with a heretic, realizing that
such a person is perverted and sinful and stands self-condemned.
[TI 3:9-11] No creature is concealed from him, but everything is naked and exposed to the eyes of him to whom we must render an account.
[HEB 4:13] Therefore, let us leave behind the basic teaching about Christ
and advance to maturity, without laying the foundation all over
again: repentance from dead works and faith in God, instruction
about baptisms and laying on of hands, resurrection of the dead
and eternal judgment. And we shall do this, if only God permits.
[HEB 6:1-3] For it is impossible in the case of those who have once been enlightened and tasted the heavenly gift
and shared in the Holy Spirit and tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age to
come, and then have fallen away, to bring them to repentance again, since they are recrucifying the Son of God for themselves
and holding him up to contempt. Ground that has absorbed the rain falling upon it repeatedly and brings forth crops useful to those for whom it is cultivated receives a blessing from God. But if it produces thorns and thistles, it is rejected; it will soon be cursed and finally burned.
[HEB 6:4-8] Just as it is appointed that human beings die once, and after
this the judgment, so also Christ, offered once to take away the
sins of many, will appear a second time, not to take away sin
but to bring salvation to those who eagerly await him. [HEB 9:27-28] If we sin deliberately after receiving knowledge of the truth,
there no longer remains sacrifice for sins but a fearful prospect
of judgment and a flaming fire that is going to consume the
adversaries. Anyone who rejects the law of Moses is put to death
without pity on the testimony of two or three witnesses. Do you
not think that a much worse punishment is due the one who has
contempt for the Son of God, considers unclean the covenant-blood
by which he was consecrated, and insults the spirit of grace? We
know the one who said: "Vengeance is mine; I will
repay," and again: "The Lord will judge his
people." It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the
living God. [HEB 10:26-31] However, if you fulfill
the royal law according to the scripture, "You shall love
your neighbor as yourself," you are doing well. But if you
show partiality, you commit sin, and are convicted by the law as
transgressors. For whoever keeps the whole law, but falls short in
one particular, has become guilty in respect to all of it. For he
who said, "You shall not commit adultery," also said,
"You shall not kill." Even if you do not commit adultery
but kill, you have become a transgressor of the law. So speak and
so act as people who will be judged by the law of freedom. For
the judgment is merciless to one who has not shown mercy; mercy
              triumphs over judgment.
[JMS 2:8-13] For the time that has passed is sufficient for doing what the Gentiles
like to do: living in debauchery, evil desires, drunkenness, orgies, carousing, and wanton idolatry. They are surprised that you do not plunge into the same swamp of profligacy, and they vilify you; but they will give an account to him who stands ready to judge the living and the dead.
[1PT 4:3-5] But whoever is made to suffer as a Christian should not be
ashamed but glorify God because of the name. For it is time for
the judgment to begin with the household of God; if it begins with
us, how will it end for those who fail to obey the gospel of God?
"And if the righteous one is barely saved, where will the
godless and the sinner appear?" As a result, those who suffer
in accord with God's will hand their souls over to a faithful
creator as they do good. [1PT 4:16-19] For if God did not spare the angels when they sinned, but
condemned them to the chains of Tartarus and handed them over to
be kept for judgment; and if he did not spare the ancient world,
even though he preserved Noah, a herald of righteousness, together
              with seven others, when he brought a flood upon the godless world;
and if he condemned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah (to
destruction), reducing them to ashes, making them an example for
the godless (people) of what is coming; and if he rescued Lot, a
righteous man oppressed by the licentious conduct of unprincipled
people (for day after day that righteous man living among them was
tormented in his righteous soul at the lawless deeds that he saw
and heard), then the Lord knows how to rescue the devout from
trial and to keep the unrighteous under punishment for the day of
judgment, and especially those who follow the flesh with its
depraved desire and show contempt for lordship. Bold and arrogant,
[false teachers] not afraid to revile glorious beings, whereas
angels, despite their superior strength and power, do not bring a
reviling judgment against them from the Lord. But these people...
revile things that they do not understand, and in their
destruction they will also be destroyed, suffering wrong as
payment for wrongdoing. Thinking daytime revelry a delight, they
are stains and defilements as they revel in their deceits while
carousing with you. Their eyes are full of adultery and insatiable
for sin. They seduce unstable people, and their hearts are trained
in greed. Accursed children! Abandoning the straight road, they
have gone astray, following the road of Balaam... They promise
them freedom, though they themselves are slaves of corruption, for
a person is a slave of whatever overcomes him. For if they, having
escaped the defilements of the world through the knowledge of
(our) Lord and savior Jesus Christ, again become entangled and
overcome by them, their last condition is worse than their first.
For it would have been better for them not to have known the way
of righteousness than after knowing it to turn back from the holy
commandment handed down to them. [Taken from 2PT 2:4-15,19-21] Know this first of all, that in the last days scoffers will
come (to) scoff, living according to their own desires and saying,
"Where is the promise of his coming? From the time when our
ancestors fell asleep, everything has remained as it was from the
beginning of creation." They deliberately ignore the fact
that the heavens existed of old and earth was formed out of water
and through water by the word of God; through these the world
that then existed was destroyed, deluged with water. The present
heavens and earth have been reserved by the same word for fire,
kept for the day of judgment and of destruction of the godless.
But do not ignore this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one
day is like a thousand years and a thousand years like one day.
The Lord does not delay his promise, as some regard
"delay," but he is patient with you, not wishing that
any should perish but that all should come to repentance. But the
day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then the heavens
will pass away with a mighty roar and the elements will be
dissolved by fire, and the earth and everything done on it will be
found out. [2PT 3:3-10] We have come to know and to believe in the love God has for us.
God is love, and whoever remains in love remains in God and God in
him. In this is love brought to perfection among us, that we have
confidence on the day of judgment because as he is, so are we in
this world. There is no fear in love, but perfect love drives out
fear because fear has to do with punishment, and so one who fears
is not yet perfect in love. [1JN 4:16-18] "I wish to remind you, although you know all things, that (the)
Lord who once saved a people from the land of Egypt later
destroyed those who did not believe. The angels too, who did not
keep to their own domain but deserted their proper dwelling, he
has kept in eternal chains, in gloom, for the judgment of the
great day. Likewise, Sodom, Gomorrah, and the surrounding towns,
which, in the same manner as they, indulged in sexual promiscuity
and practiced unnatural vice, serve as an example by undergoing a
punishment of eternal fire. Similarly, these dreamers nevertheless also defile the flesh, scorn lordship, and revile
glorious beings. Yet the archangel Michael, when he argued with
the devil in a dispute over the body of Moses, did not venture to
pronounce a reviling judgment upon him but said, "May the
Lord rebuke you!" But these people revile what they do not
understand and are destroyed by what they know... Woe to them!
They followed the way of Cain, abandoned themselves to Balaam's
error for the sake of gain, and perished in the rebellion of Korah...
Enoch, of the seventh generation from Adam, prophesied also about
them when he said, "Behold, the Lord has come with his
countless holy ones to execute judgment on all and to convict
everyone for all the godless deeds that they committed and for all
the harsh words godless sinners have uttered against him."
These people are complainers, disgruntled ones who live by their
desires; their mouths utter bombast as they fawn over people to
gain advantage." [Taken from JUDE 1:5-11,14-16] When he broke open the fifth seal, I saw underneath the altar the souls of those who had been slaughtered because of the witness
they bore to the word of God. They cried out in a loud voice,
"How long will it be, holy and true master, before you sit
in judgment and avenge our blood on the inhabitants of the
earth?" Each of them was given a white robe, and they were
told to be patient a little while longer until the number was
filled of their fellow servants and brothers who were going to be
killed as they had been. [RV 6:9-11] "The nations raged, but your wrath has come, and the time for
the dead to be judged, and to recompense your servants, the
prophets, and the holy ones and those who fear your name, the
small and the great alike, and to destroy those who destroy the
earth." [RV 11:18] Then I saw another angel flying high overhead, with everlasting
good news to announce to those who dwell on earth, to every
nation, tribe, tongue, and people. He said in a loud voice,
"Fear God and give him glory, for his time has come to sit in
judgment. Worship him who made heaven and earth and sea and
springs of water." [RV 14:6-7] Then I heard the angel in charge of the waters say: "You
are just, O Holy One, who are and who were, in passing this
sentence. For they have shed the blood of the holy ones and the
prophets, and you (have) given them blood to drink; it is what
they deserve." Then I heard the altar cry out, "Yes,
Lord God almighty, your judgments are true and just." [RV 16:5-7] Then one of the seven angels who were holding the seven bowls
came and said to me, "Come here. I will show you the judgment
on the great harlot who lives near the many waters." [RV 17:1] Then I saw thrones; those who sat on them were entrusted with
judgment. [Taken from RV 20:4] I saw the dead, the great and the lowly, standing before the
throne, and scrolls were opened. Then another scroll was opened,
the book of life. The dead were judged according to their deeds,
by what was written in the scrolls. [RV 20:12] The sea gave up its dead; then Death and Hades gave up their
dead. All the dead were judged according to their deeds. [RV
