| Then the LORD God said
to the serpent: "Because you have done this, you shall be
banned from all the animals and from all the wild creatures; On
your belly shall you crawl, and dirt shall you eat all the days of
your life. I will put enmity between you and the woman, and
between your offspring and hers; He will strike at your head,
while you strike at his heel." To the woman he said: "I
will intensify the pangs of your childbearing; in pain shall you
bring forth children. Yet your urge shall be for your husband, and
he shall be your master." [GEN 3:14-16] Abraham prostrated himself and laughed as he said to himself, "Can a child be born to a man who is a hundred years old? Or can Sarah give birth at ninety?" Then Abraham said to God, "Let but Ishmael live on by your favor!" God replied: "Nevertheless, your wife Sarah is to bear you a son, and you shall call him Isaac. I will maintain my covenant with him as an everlasting pact, to be his God and the God of his descendants after him."
              [GEN 17:17-19]
While she was giving birth, one infant put out his hand; and
the midwife, taking a crimson thread, tied it on his hand, to note
that this one came out first. [GEN 38:28]
Was it I who conceived all this people? or was it I who gave
them birth, that you tell me to carry them at my bosom, like a
foster father carrying an infant, to the land you have promised
under oath to their fathers? [NUM 11:12]
You were unmindful of the Rock that begot you, You forgot the
God who gave you birth. [DEUT 32:18]
"Thus says Hezekiah: 'This is a day of distress, of
rebuke, and of disgrace. Children are at the point of birth, but
there is no strength to bring them forth.'" [2KGS 19:3]
Jabez was the most distinguished of the brothers. His mother
had named him Jabez, saying, "I bore him with pain."
              [1CHRON 4:9]
Why did I not perish at birth, come forth from the womb and
              expire? [JOB 3:11]
Or why was I not buried away like an untimely birth, like babes
that have never seen the light? [JOB 3:16]
Man born of woman is short-lived and full of trouble, Like a flower that springs up and fades, swift as a shadow that does not abide. [JOB
              14:1-2]
What is a man that he should be blameless, one born of woman
that he should be righteous? [JOB 15:14]
Did not he who made me in the womb make him? Did not the same
One fashion us before our birth? [JOB 31:15]
Upon you I was thrust from the womb; since birth you are my
              God. [PS 22:11]
The generation to come will be told of the Lord, that they may
proclaim to a people yet unborn the deliverance you have brought.
              [PS 22:32]
True, I was born guilty, a sinner, even as my mother conceived
              me. [PS 51:7]
The wicked have been corrupt since birth; liars from the
womb, they have gone astray. [PS 58:4]
On you I depend since birth; from my mother's womb you are my
strength; my hope in you never wavers. [PS 71:6]
That the next generation might come to know, children yet to be
born. In turn they were to recite them to their children [Taken
              from PS
              78:6]
I myself make him firstborn, Most High over the kings of the
              earth. [PS 89:28]
Before the mountains were born, the earth and the world brought
forth, from eternity to eternity you are God. [PS 90:2]
"Yours is princely power from the day of your birth. In holy
splendor before the daystar, like the dew I begot you." [PS
              110:3]
Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the children born in
              one's youth. [PS 127:4]
Let your father and mother have joy; let her who bore you
              exult. [PROV 23:25]
A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a
time to uproot the plant. [ECCL 3:2]
And better off than both is the yet unborn, who has not seen
the wicked work that is done under the sun. [ECCL 4:3]
Better is a poor but wise youth than an old but foolish king who no longer knows caution; for from a prison house one comes forth to rule, since even in his royalty he was poor at birth. [ECCL
              4:13-14]
Should a man have a hundred children and live many years, no
matter to what great age, still if he has not the full benefit of
his goods, or if he is deprived of burial, of this man I proclaim
that the child born dead is more fortunate than he. [ECCL 6:3]
A good name is better than good ointment, and the day of death
than the day of birth. [ECCL 7:1]
For haphazard were we born, and hereafter we shall be as though
we had not been; Because the breath in our nostrils is a smoke and
reason is a spark at the beating of our hearts, And when this is quenched, our body will be ashes and our spirit will be poured abroad like unresisting air. [WISDOM
              2:2-3]
For children born of lawless unions give evidence of the
wickedness of their parents, when they are examined. [WISDOM 4:6]
"Even so we, once born, abruptly came to nought and held no sign
of virtue to display, but were consumed in our wickedness."
              [WISDOM 5:13]
And I too, when born, inhaled the common air, and fell upon the
kindred earth; wailing, I uttered that first sound common to all.
              [WISDOM 7:3]
For no king has any different origin or birth, but one is the entry into life for all; and in one same way they leave it. [WISDOM
              7:5-6]
With your whole heart honor your father; your mother's
birthpangs forget not. Remember, of these parents you were born; what can you give
them for all they gave you? [SIRACH 7:27-28]
Error and darkness were formed with sinners from their birth,
and evil grows old with evildoers. [SIRACH 11:16]
As with the leaves that grow on a vigorous tree: one falls off
and another sprouts - So with the generations of flesh and blood:
one dies and another is born. [SIRACH 14:18]
When a fool hears something, he is in labor, like a woman
giving birth to a child. [SIRACH 19:10]
Keep your father and mother in mind when you sit among the
mighty, Lest in their presence you commit a blunder and disgrace
your upbringing, By wishing you had never been born or cursing the
day of your birth. [SIRACH 23:14]
Show mercy to the people called by your name; Israel, whom you
              named your first-born. [SIRACH 36:11]
The people's hearts melted within them, and they were in
anguish like that of childbirth. [SIRACH 48:19]
For a child is born to us, a son is given us; upon his shoulder
dominion rests. They name him Wonder-Counselor, God-Hero,
Father-Forever, Prince of Peace. [ISA 9:5]
As a woman about to give birth writhes and cries out in her
pains, so were we in your presence, O LORD. [ISA 26:17]
Woe to him who asks a father, "What are you
begetting?" or a woman, "What are you giving birth
              to?" [ISA 45:10]
Hear me, O coastlands, listen, O distant peoples. The LORD
called me from birth, from my mother's womb he gave me my name.
              [ISA 49:1]
Before she comes to labor, she gives birth; Before the pains
come upon her, she safely delivers a male child. Who ever heard of such a thing, or saw the like? Can a country
be brought forth in one day, or a nation be born in a single
moment? Yet Zion is scarcely in labor when she gives birth to her
children. Shall I bring a mother to the point of birth, and yet not let
her child be born? says the LORD; Or shall I who allow her to
conceive, yet close her womb? says your God. [ISA 66:7-9]
Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were
born I dedicated you, a prophet to the nations I appointed you. [JER
              1:5]
They who say to a piece of wood, "You are my father,"
and to a stone, "You gave me birth." They turn to me
their backs, not their faces; yet, in their time of trouble they
cry out, "Rise up and save us!" [JER 2:27]
Woe to me, mother, that you gave me birth! a man of strife and
contention to all the land! I neither borrow nor lend, yet all
              curse me. [JER 15:10]
Inquire, and see: since when do men bear children? Why, then,
do I see all these men, with their hands on their loins like women
in childbirth? Why have all their faces turned deathly pale? [JER
              30:6]
As for your birth, the day you were born your navel cord was
not cut; you were neither washed with water nor anointed, nor were
you rubbed with salt, nor swathed in swaddling clothes. No one looked on you with pity or compassion to do any of these
things for you. Rather, you were thrown out on the ground as
something loathsome, the day you were born. [EZEK 16:4-5]
The book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of
Abraham....Jacob the father of Joseph, the husband of Mary. Of her was
born Jesus who is called the Messiah. [MT 1:1,16]
Now this is how the birth of Jesus Christ came about. When his
mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, but before they lived
together, she was found with child through the Holy Spirit. [MT
              1:18]
When Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea, in the days of King
Herod, behold, magi from the east arrived in Jerusalem, saying, "Where is the newborn king of the Jews? We saw his star at its rising and have come to do him homage." When King Herod heard this, he was greatly troubled, and all Jerusalem with him. Assembling all the chief priests and the scribes of the people, he inquired of them where the Messiah was to be
              born. They said to him, "In Bethlehem of Judea, for thus it has been written through the prophet: 'And you, Bethlehem, land of Judah,  are by no means least among the rulers of Judah;
since from you shall come a ruler, who is to shepherd my people Israel.'" [MT
              2:1-6]
Amen, I say to you, among those born of women there has been
none greater than John the Baptist; yet the least in the kingdom
of heaven is greater than he. [MT 11:11]
"Some are incapable of marriage because they were born so; some,
because they were made so by others; some, because they have
renounced marriage for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. Whoever
can accept this ought to accept it." [MT 19:12]
"The Son of Man indeed goes, as it is written of him, but woe to
that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed. It would be better
for that man if he had never been born." [MT 26:24]
But the angel said to him, "Do not be afraid, Zechariah, because your prayer has been heard. Your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you shall name him John. And you will have joy and gladness, and many will rejoice at his birth, for he will be great in the sight of (the) Lord. He will drink neither wine nor strong drink. He will be filled with the
Holy Spirit even from his mother's womb, and he will turn many of the children of Israel to the Lord their God. He will go before him in the spirit and power of Elijah to turn the hearts of fathers toward children and the disobedient to the understanding of the righteous, to prepare a people fit for the Lord."
              [LK 1:13-17]
And the angel said to her in reply, "The Holy Spirit will
come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you.
Therefore the child to be born will be called holy, the Son of
              God." [LK 1:35]
When the time arrived for Elizabeth to have her child she gave
birth to a son. Her neighbors and relatives heard that the Lord had shown his great mercy toward her, and they rejoiced with her.
              [LK 1:57-58]
And Joseph too went up from Galilee from the town of Nazareth to Judea, to the city of David that is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family of David, to be enrolled with Mary, his betrothed, who was with child. While they were there, the time came for her to have her child, and she gave birth to her firstborn son. She wrapped him in swaddling clothes and laid him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn. Now there were shepherds in that region living in the fields and keeping the night watch over their flock. The angel of the Lord appeared to them and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were struck with great fear. The angel said to them, "Do not be afraid; for behold, I proclaim to you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For today in the city of David a savior has been born for you who is Messiah and Lord. And this will be a sign for you: you will find an infant wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a manger." And suddenly there was a multitude of the heavenly host with the angel, praising God and saying: "Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests."
              [LK 2:4-14]
Jesus turned to them and said, "Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me; weep instead for yourselves and for your children, for indeed, the days are coming when people will say, 'Blessed are the barren, the wombs that never bore and the breasts that never
              nursed.'" [LK 23:28-29]
But to those who did accept him he gave power to become children of God, to those who believe in his name, who were born not by natural generation nor by human choice nor by a man's decision but of God.
              [JN 1:12-13]
Jesus answered and said to him, "Amen, amen, I say to you,
no one can see the kingdom of God without being born from
above." Nicodemus said to him, "How can a person once grown old be
born again? Surely he cannot reenter his mother's womb and be born
again, can he?" Jesus answered, "Amen, amen, I say to you, no one can
enter the kingdom of God without being born of water and Spirit. What is born of flesh is flesh and what is born of spirit is
spirit. Do not be amazed that I told you, 'You must be born from
above.' The wind blows where it wills, and you can hear the sound it
              makes, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes;
so it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit." [JN 3:3-8]
When a woman is in labor, she is in anguish because her hour
has arrived; but when she has given birth to a child, she no
longer remembers the pain because of her joy that a child has been
born into the world. [JN 16:21]
So Pilate said to him, "Then you are a king?" Jesus
answered, "You say I am a king. For this I was born and for
this I came into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone who
belongs to the truth listens to my voice." [JN 18:37]
For those he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to
the image of his Son, so that he might be the firstborn among many
              brothers. [ROM 8:29]
And not only that, but also when Rebecca had conceived children by one husband, our father Isaac
              - before they had yet been born or had done anything, good or bad, in order that God's elective plan might continue, not by works but by his
cal l - she was told, "The older shall serve the
younger." As it is written: "I loved Jacob but hated
              Esau." [ROM 9:10-13]
For just as woman came from man, so man is born of woman; but
all things are from God. [1COR 11:12]
But when the fullness of time had come, God sent his Son, born
of a woman, born under the law, to ransom those under the law, so that we might receive adoption. [GAL
              4:4-5]
For it is written: "Rejoice, you barren one who bore no
children; break forth and shout, you who were not in labor; for
more numerous are the children of the deserted one than of her who
              has a husband." [GAL 4:27]
He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all
              creation. [COL 1:15]
He is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning,
the firstborn from the dead, that in all things he himself might
              be preeminent. [COL 1:18]
But when the kindness and generous love of God our savior appeared, not because of any righteous deeds we had done but because of his mercy, he saved us through the bath of rebirth and renewal by the
Holy Spirit, whom he richly poured out on us through Jesus Christ our savior, so that we might be justified by his grace and become heirs in hope of eternal life. [TI
              3:4-7]
And again, when he leads the first-born into the world, he
says: "Let all the angels of God worship him." [HEB 1:6]
By faith Moses was hidden by his parents for three months after
his birth, because they saw that he was a beautiful child, and
they were not afraid of the king's edict. [HEB 11:23]
He willed to give us birth by the word of truth that we may be
a kind of firstfruits of his creatures. [JMS 1:18]
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who in
his great mercy gave us a new birth to a living hope through the
resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you who by the power of God are safeguarded through faith, to a salvation that is ready to be revealed in the final time. [1PT
              1:3-5]
You have been born anew, not from perishable but from
imperishable seed, through the living and abiding word of God [Taken
              from 1PT 1:23]
Rid yourselves of all malice and all deceit, insincerity, envy, and all slander; like newborn infants, long for pure spiritual milk so that through it you may grow into salvation, for you have tasted that the Lord is
              good. [1PT 2:1-3]
A great sign appeared in the sky, a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars. She was with child and wailed aloud in pain as she labored to give
              birth. [RV 12:1-2]
Its tail swept away a third of the stars in the sky and hurled
them down to the earth. Then the dragon stood before the woman
about to give birth, to devour her child when she gave birth. She gave birth to a son, a male child, destined to rule all the
nations with an iron rod. Her child was caught up to God and his
              throne. [RV 12:4-5]
